“Help out, but don’t take over.” That’s what Paul’s parents kept telling him. Growing up in a hawker family, @paul_liew of @kengengkee saw firsthand the long hours and sacrifices that came with running an F&B business. His parents wanted their children to have a different life. But things turned out differently. Today, all three siblings are running the family business together. #entrepreneurship #successstories #business #founder #startup by @paul_liew
Meet the Liews. Three siblings, countless hours in @kengengkee 's kitchen and a shared desire: keeping their family’s flavours alive. For them, it’s not just about profits and losses. It's about treating their staff like family and doing business with honesty, just like their grandparents and parents did. Now with WOKIN, they’re serving up the same warmth and passion. Catch their zi char fusion creations like the Coffee Pork Burger, Marmite Pasta and more at WOKIN, SAFRA Punggol. See you there! by @paul_liew
Would you join the business your parents told you not to? At StaffAny Leaders Lounge Singapore at 11 Westside, Paul Liew of KEK Seafood shared how a hawker kid who studied civil engineering and dreamed of a corporate job ended up leading a 56-year family F&B business. Three key takeaways from the conversation: 1️⃣ Change your own circle first. Paul didn't argue his parents into new ideas. He improved what he could reach, cutting wait times from 2 hours to 1.5, putting a P&L in place, and moving the team from 2 off days a month to a 5-day week. Once the results showed, his parents gave him more room. 2️⃣ Prove it small, then scale. When his mom balked at the 3.5% card fee, Paul asked for a 3-month trial. Sales went up as guests ordered more crab, fish and drinks, and the change stayed. 3️⃣ Keep showing up, and make it win-win. Netflix and an invite to Copenhagen didn't come by chance. They came from years of doing PR and talking to people. His advice is to network, find common ground, and remember you can't win everything. Thank you to Paul for the honest, practical stories, to TreeAMS for sponsoring the afternoon, and to everyone who joined, asked questions and shared their own experiences. A big thank you to the StaffAny team for bringing everyone together. See you at the next Leaders Lounge Singapore! 👋 by @paul_liew
The Mala Crème Prawn Spaghetti. What do you get when you mix pasta with Mala cream sauce, seared prawns and mushrooms? An all-time favourite. by @paul_liew
We sat down with Paul Liew @paul_liew and @chefwayneliew to talk about the pop-up, KEK, and everything that brought them to Bengaluru ❤️ Video by @reno_pete and @the.ray.films by @paul_liew
We arrived at Keng Eng Kee (KEK) @kengengkee at 5pm—— if you don’t go when it opens, there will be a queue. A three-generation family-run seafood restaurant in Singapore, Michelin recommended for 10 consecutive years, and featured on Netflix’s Street Food Asia. The third-generation owner, Paul @paul_liew , had just wrapped up a pop-up in India’s Silicon Valley — Bangalore — i heard some serious billionaire tech CEO showed up, they all craved for chilli crabs, insane! Paul took us to the back kitchen to show us how their signature clay-pot pork liver is made. While we were there, I caught a glimpse of the kitchen setup — who on earth puts a Rational oven that almost only fine dining restaurants use, costing hundreds of thousands in a street food kitchen? Paul just said, “Oh, we just wanted more consistent output.” Classic humblebrag. Coffee pork ribs, Moonlight Hor Fun, and crab meat in chilli sauce are all must-orders. But if you can only pick one dish — black pepper crab is non-negotiable. Its complexity and sheer deliciousness are in a league of their own. I’ve been craving this since I left Singapore. #chillicrab #singaporestreetfood #kek #瓊榮記 #琼荣记 by @paul_liew

Four chefs. Three Bangalore institutions. One packed day. @vineshjohny and @david_dsouza7 took @paul_liew and @chefwayneliew of KEK @kengengkee from Vidyarthi Bhavan to Nagarjuna to Corner House - giving them the Bengaluru food education they didn’t know they needed. Because the best way to know a city is to eat through it. 🍽️ by @paul_liew
