Day 5/5 @paula_parole Takeover here ๐Ÿ“ฃ Lastly I am sharing my raging girls series ๐Ÿ‘น. I named them after female attributes which are also old English girlโ€™s names: Patience, Grace, Mercy and Temperance. ๐ŸŒธ Other than their dutiful names, these girls, crying, screaming and definitely โ€œout of controlโ€, are breaking with their expected virtues. Inspired by the female characters in fairy tales they challenge the promises of obedience, beauty and rescue that so many of us grow up with. To me, they represent the inner child that continues to carry those unresolved feelings into adulthood. This series, with โ€˜Temperanceโ€™ as my first work in the show, set the tone for โ€˜A Promise Is A Spellโ€™. ๐Ÿช„Like roses,๐Ÿฅ€the thornes on the side of their frame protect from all evil and the innocence of childhood / childish-ness that we like to hold onto. ๐ŸŒˆ๐Ÿ’ญ What an exciting and fun week its been. Thank you, Marcelle, for your generosity, trust and freedom! โค๏ธโ€๐Ÿ”ฅThis takeover was a reminder to share more again. I often feel intimidated by Instagram, worrying too much about trying to make everything look โ€œrightโ€. But I guess this little influencer-taster week reminded me to just jump over my own shadow, share anyway, and let go of what people might think. (We canโ€™t control that anyway.) ๐Ÿ‘ป If you enjoyed this week and my work, you know where to find me ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ‘€ Applause for Marcelle for creating opportunities and supporting artists in an art world thatโ€™s becoming harder and harder to be part of.๐ŸŽ–๏ธYours, Xxx Paula ๐Ÿ’‹ ๐’ซ๐’ถ๐“‰๐’พ๐‘’๐“ƒ๐’ธ๐‘’ 2026 Oil on canvas, velvet, clay 85 ร— 70 cm ๐Ÿ“ธ All pictures shot by @renelazovy #instagramtakeover #marcellejoseph #curatorssupportingartists #collectorssupportingartists womensupportingwomen ๐’ข๐“‡๐’ถ๐’ธ๐‘’ 2026 Oil on canvas, velvet, clay 85 ร— 70 cm #instagramtakeover #marcellejoseph #curatorssupportingartists #collectorssupportingartists womensupportingwomen ๐‘€๐‘’๐“‡๐’ธ๐“Ž 2026 Oil on canvas, velvet, clay 85 ร— 70 cm #instagramtakeover #marcellejoseph #curatorssupportingartists #collectorssupportingartists #womensupportingwomen ๐’ฏ๐‘’๐“‚๐“…๐‘’๐“‡๐’ถ๐“ƒ๐’ธ๐‘’ 2026 Oil on canvas, velvet, clay 190 ร— 130 cm #instagramtakeover #marcellejoseph #curatorssupport by @paula_parole
Day 4/5 @paula_parole takeover once again โ˜Ž๏ธToday I am showing you some works that have been inspired by my personal (love) life. As we know, heartbreak can be a great engine to pour all those tough emotions into a creation. ๐Ÿงจ This first piece of butcherโ€™s best coveres pictures of my ex partners and me - with them cut out of the photographs. A breakup can feel sudden like a death, and it is a strange experience to have been so intimate with someone one day, and the next they sent you trashbags with your stuff home, and never see them again. ๐Ÿ‘ป The cut pieces of flesh are metaphorical describing the feeling of this surgical process. โœ‚๏ธ Atop of the hanger lies a white lily, poured in resin, the flower of grief and goodbyes. But if you look closer you can discover that each of the pieces have a little โ€˜Forget-Me-Notโ€™ flower poured in them as well. This work is a personal observation on the consumption of the people we meet in our lives. ๐Ÿฅ€ Swipe right โ–ถ๏ธโ–ถ๏ธโ–ถ๏ธ to find more works, and in the end also some of my special series of my alter ego figures which I lovingly call my โ€œMoody Girlsโ€ ๐Ÿฆ„โ€ฆI use them to talk about the matters of the heart, subject to the state of mine when I painted them - as you might see, this series differs to my other paintings in their comical style, which I used to express these abstract feelings, finding humor and strength in them. ๐Ÿ›๐Ÿฆ‹ ๐’ฒ๐’พ๐“๐“ ๐’พ๐“‰ ๐‘’๐“‹๐‘’๐“‡ ๐“ˆ๐“‰๐‘œ๐“…? 2023 Photographs printed on resin, forget-me-not flower, cord, copper, metal, white lily, latex 125 ร— 77 cm #instagramtakeover #marcellejoseph #curatorssupportingartists #collectorssupportingartists #womensupportingwomen ๐’ฐ๐“ƒ๐’ฝ๐‘œ๐‘œ๐“€ ๐‘€๐‘’ 2024 Oil on canvas, resin, rhinestones, tights 21 ร— 25.7 ร— 4.5 cm #instagramtakeover #marcellejoseph #curatorssupportingartists #collectorssupportingartists #womensupportingwomen ๐’ฒ๐’ฝ๐’พ๐“‰๐‘’ ๐ฟ๐’พ๐‘’๐“ˆ 2026 Oil on canvas, resin, rhinestones, plexiglas, body measuring tape 77 ร— 61.5 ร— 4.5 cm #instagramtakeover #marcellejoseph #curatorssupportingartists #collectorssupportingartists #womensupportingwomen ๐’ž๐‘œ๐“‚๐“…๐‘œ๐“ˆ๐“Š๐“‡๐‘’ ๐’พ๐“ƒ ๐’Ÿ๐‘’๐’ธ๐’ถ๐“Ž 2025 Latex, tights, chicken feet, wood Approx. 32 ร— 24 ร— 6 cm #instagramtakeover #marcellejoseph #cu by @paula_parole
Day 3/5 of @paulaparole here ! ๐Ÿ›ผ๐Ÿ›ผ Today I am showing you a range of works that dive into the more feminist observations and inspired me for these. Some autobiographical.๐Ÿซข Life has the best inspiration - and so I look back into those feelings and questions that move me. They come natural, as they are simply the things that I come accross in my life and that I am intuitively drawn to. Something that my work often seem to circle back to is the pressure of ๐ŸŽญ performing the feminine, and the insecurities that come with them. To be beautiful, to be nice, to be sweet, to obey the role that is expected. ๐Ÿ‘ผYes, it still is a topic, that you come accross in many shapes when you walk through life as a woman. I guess itโ€™s something I am trying to push against, intuitively, playing with expectations, deconstructing them - and often they are my own biases, that have nested in my brain for generations. ๐Ÿง  โ›“๏ธ Itโ€™s often difficult to distinguish, is this really who I am, or is this what I think I have to be like?๐Ÿชž๐Ÿ’„Having said that, donโ€™t get me wrong - I do love being a woman ๐Ÿ’ฏ๐Ÿ’– Please slide through the carousel for some older and newer works and some notes by me.. ๐ŸŽ โžก๏ธโžก๏ธโžก๏ธ ๐’ข๐‘’๐“‰๐“‰๐’พ๐“ƒ๐‘” ๐‘…๐‘’๐’ถ๐’น๐“Ž ๐น๐‘œ๐“‡ ๐’ฎ๐“Š๐“ƒ๐’น๐’ถ๐“Ž ๐’ฎ๐‘’๐“‡๐“‹๐’พ๐’ธ๐‘’ 2025 Acrylic on canvas, Playboy rosary, toilet disposal back, artificial eyelashes, mixed media 77 ร— 63 cm #instagramtakeover #marcellejoseph #curatorssupportingartists #collectorssupportingartists #womensupportingwomen ๐’ฒ๐‘’ ๐’œ๐“๐“ ๐’Ÿ๐’พ๐‘’ ๐’œ๐“๐‘œ๐“ƒ๐‘’ 2026 Bras of the artist and engraved rib bone of a horse from the Chilean desert #instagramtakeover #marcellejoseph #curatorssupportingartists #collectorssupportingartists #womensupportingwomen ๐Ÿ“ธ by @gabblemagazine My bra-swing called โ€œWe All Die Aloneโ€ features all my bras (donโ€™t even ask๐Ÿ˜‚), and a horse rip-bone that they are holding, which has engraved the title. ๐’ฒ๐‘’ ๐’œ๐“๐“ ๐’Ÿ๐’พ๐‘’ ๐’œ๐“๐‘œ๐“ƒ๐‘’ is an antidote to the happily ever after concept of waiting for THE ONE to fulfill your happiness. Day 2/5 @paula_parole here! ๐Ÿ“ฃToday I am showing you some of my sculptural work from paper-mรขche from my last solo show called โ€šA Promise is a spellโ€™ hosted by @displayfever and @fanshawprojects โค๏ธโ€๐Ÿ”ฅ SLIDE THRU THE END๐Ÿ”› to see destruction โšก๏ธโšก๏ธโšก๏ธ I created this horse called โ€šHow To Sit Straightโ€™ ๐ŸŽ in a tiny studio (not the one in the last slide) and trashed it (in the last slide), as you sometimes unfortunately have to if space is scarce. But this wonky, hostile horse was a sculpture I played with to recreate a deformed version of a childhood room from an adult perspective. In the time of its creation the Epstein files were discussed in the press, which I recycled from newspaper in the childish looking horse. The process of doing things from paper-mรขche threw me back into my childhood. A naive un-sophisticated and cheap DIY way to make sculptures - perfect for this. The saddle is covered with red thornes (from clay), the handlebars filled with needles - both elements that recall the violent Grimm-esque fairy tale stories I was raised with. Its more like a warning (to any kind of prince ๐Ÿ‘‘) then an invitation. ๐Ÿ˜ˆโ˜ ๏ธ The paper-mรขchรฉ cage above the bed ๐Ÿ›Œ is open, feathers are traces of the empty nest ๐Ÿชน or even traces of a fightโ€ฆ the (escaped) birds around it on different little wooden pieces carry mantras around them, as to remind yourself of the things that you otherwise might forget in the whirlwinds of growing up. The windows are closed, the birds could never really escape their cages - even if it seems so on the first look. The cage just got larger. Synthetic fur, Clay, Stitching needles, and the tail of my grandmotherโ€™s favorite horse 155 ร— 160 ร— 80 cm #instagramtakeover #marcellejoseph #curatorssupportingartists #collectorssupportingartists womensupportingwomen Installation view of โ€šA promise is a spellโ€˜ (03/26) hosted by @displayfever & @fanshawprojects โค๏ธโ€๐Ÿ”ฅ ๐“—๐“ธ๐”€ ๐“ฃ๐“ธ ๐“ข๐“ฒ๐“ฝ ๐“ข๐“ฝ๐“ป๐“ช๐“ฒ๐“ฐ๐“ฑ๐“ฝ 2026 Papier-Mรขchรฉ, Synthetic fur, Clay, Stitching needles, and the tail of my grandmotherโ€™s favorite horse 155 ร— 160 ร— 80 cm #instagramtakeover #marcellejoseph #curatorssuppo by @paula_parole
Hello folks ๐Ÿค Its me, @paula_parole - taking over @marcelle.joseph insta account this week! ๐Ÿฃ Let me first introduce you to the backbone ๐Ÿฆด of my multidisciplinary practice: painting! ๐Ÿ–ผ๏ธ Here are some of my works, older and newer, most of them depicting kids (myself, friends, and family members). Childhood and growing up is a central theme in my work. I guess I am looking for answers and my roots in the turmoil of adultlife. ๐ŸŽข I like to capture small moments of intimacy, moments that fill me with a strong sense of belonging, finding relief and beauty in their impermanence. ๐Ÿชฆ๐ŸŒฑI grew up in Essen, Germany with an artist mother, a trained metal sculptor who later turned a painter. I think its probably safe to say that she massively influenced me. There was color everywhere, art was all that mattered, no walls without paintings (last slide). ๐Ÿ›๐Ÿคก Even though my practice is currently headed into more sculptural, mixed media elements, and this is only a part of it - these portraits from family albums often serve as starting points in my practice to recreate those specific feelings, dive into childhood, and maybe ask yourself about how it shaped you. ๐ŸŽ ๐Ÿงƒ๐Ÿš Even though these works are obviously very personal, I believe they carry universal nostalgic feelings of a chilhood and its insouciance. ๐Ÿงธ๐Ÿ‘ป Stay tuned for more, as I take you through this week ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ’‹ ๐’ช๐“ƒ๐’ธ๐‘’ ๐’ฐ๐“…๐‘œ๐“ƒ ๐’œ ๐’ฏ๐’พ๐“‚๐‘’ 2026 Oil on canvas, plexiglass 25 ร— 31 cm #instagramtakeover #marcellejoseph #curatorssupportingartists #collectorssupportingartists womensupportingwomen ๐’ฒ๐’ฝ๐’ถ๐“‰ ๐’œ๐“‡๐‘’ ๐’ด๐‘œ๐“Š ๐’Ÿ๐“‡๐‘’๐’ถ๐“‚๐’พ๐“ƒ๐‘” ๐’ช๐’ป? Paula Parole reflects on imperfection, fantasy, and the shift between childhood imagination and reality. Speaking with Victoria Comstock-Kershaw, she discusses her wonky horse, a deliberately uneven paper-machรฉ sculpture that embraces the awkward, the cheap, and the unresolved. Together, they touch on how material and form can challenge expectations, and why not everything needs to be refined. Full brave podcast out now. Link in bio.
