Thank you all for the birthday wishes!
As I reached that milestone of 65-I wanted to post something. I thought I’d never be able to share because it was on an out-of-print album I recorded in 1993. Here’s “Inner Openings”-a great example of some of my early solo Electric bassoon music-a piece I performed many times with @pauldresher and his Ensemble when I was in the group from 1991-2002. Thanks to Paul I’ll be performing music similar to this at the upcoming “Bassoon Transformations: Improbable Territory” November 21st. The link for tickets to the concert is in my Instagram bio.

I don’t really care that it’s over three minutes😊-just getting back in the swing of creative things after a lot happening in my life. My mother-in-law passed away right before the start of my @phantomtour -and I just haven’t had the energy to post. I’m working on a few new things with some old and new technology for my November 21st concert with @unpil.baek at @newperformancetraditions Dresher Studio on Poplar St in West Oakland CA. Really appreciate @pauldresher giving me the opportunity to do this concert! It’ll be mainly a solo Bassoon concert featuring me and my toys, but also will include the introduction of a new duo I have with @unpil.baek playing some acoustic and electric music. We will be playing music by a very diverse field of composers-legends like Wayne Shorter, Glen Campbell, Sting, Ralph Towner and Tigran Hamasyan. You’ll be hearing more about this concert from here on out. If you’re in the area, we would love to play for you!

We are hitting the road in California-joining Joel will be @michael_manring @scottamendola and myself on a short California tour in the middle of November. You can see our dates here-I’ll be posting more links later. We are playing the music of Miles Davis and his “In A Silent Way” recording.

This popped up on my Facebook timeline today-waaay back in 2011 before I had an Instagram account.
Living with my family in Tokyo-playing 380 shows a year with @cirquedusoleil ZED, some of my off time that year was with Cynthia and the kids taking some time in Colorado-so I had a lot of time outside of the show. The pickup I’m using on bassoon was one of my two FRAP pressure transducers made by @arnielazarus -they tracked amazingly well. For the rest of the sounds-well, it was called Logic Nights for a reason. A fun look back at a song called “Aqaba”.

Some fantastic shots of the trio of @scottamendola @michael_manring and myself from @jimsimonetti from the @occidentalcenterforthearts Occidental Jazz Festival Sept 19th. Music to this gallery courtesy of @abstractlogix from my recent “The Outer Banks” album. Lot more coming up for me the next couple months. I will be touring with the dudes in our trio along with guitarist @harrisongtr on a California tour from November 12-16. More on that later. I also will be doing a special show of electric/acoustic bassoon solos and duos with @unpil.baek Nov 21 at @newperformancetraditions that will be really special-I’ll really will be stretching out on this performance.

@jimmywebbmusic and my latest version of his “Wichita Lineman”: I just had to put this video into Logic try to get some of that barky high-end out by putting some EQ on it and adjusting some high down. A bit of verb is also nice. I think it sounds better now-what was previously heard before on the last video was coming straight out of my monitor and often all I wanna do is hear myself when we don’t have much time to soundcheck.
Super fun gig with @scottamendola @michael_manring at @occidentalcenterforthearts Occidental Jazz Festival last week! Thank you @glassbrickboulevard and @calibirdgirl !

Yes, Instagram I know this is over three minutes-I know the algorithm doesn’t push long videos, but I still had to share this solo performance of “Wichita Lineman” from last Saturday’s trio gig at @occidentalcenterforthearts Occidental Jazz Festival. Thank you to everybody who came out-and a huge thank you to @michael_manring @scottamendola for their incredible playing as well as @glassbrickboulevard and @calibirdgirl for making the festival happen and inviting us!
