📸 RETRO POST 1 - First time summit of Mt. Mansfield, VT. April 2022

The first in a series! I’m going back, to reveal some captures from recent years that never got posted! First up is my first-time solo climb up Mount Mansfield. Started with a 4 am wake up, ten minutes away from the mountain. Car campin.
Climbed over two thousand feet in two hours, just in time for a spectacular sunrise. By the way, it was COLD. Still with a long way to go, I climbed above the ski area boundary in a snow filled gully, navigating difficult terrain and ice near the top. But the summit ridge leveled out and it turned into a lovely day! Incredibly clear, could see near a hundred miles. Montreal to the north, Mount Washington to the south east, and the Adirondack high peaks to the west. And the massive Lake Champlain.
I met a nice guy up top with an old film camera! He offered to take some photos and send them to me later. Those are the first few photos here.
On the way down I found the Taft Lodge, a shelter on VT’s Long Trail. After that I did some more climbing but was completely spent. I finally arrived back down at the car, and took a very, very long nap!
Glad to finally get this one dug out of the archives! taken in Stowe, Vermont by @paulbro11
