Hearts Remember, our documentary project was presented at the 2026 Alzheimer’s Association International Conference in London a little over a week ago! Grateful for the opportunity to showcase our insights and findings.

Shout out to Dr Kirti Rachod and the @_memorability team for their leadership and partnership.

This work is a testament to the incredible contributors who bravely share their powerful stories and experiences.

Dementia awareness and research are more critical than ever, with over 57 million people living with dementia worldwide. Our South African documentary explores dementia and healthy aging within our local context, acknowledging that aging is a journey many of us will embrace.

Here’s to our collective efforts to raise awareness, support and understanding. 💜 #HeartsRemember #DementiaAwareness

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”
-uTata Nelson Mandela

On this Mandela Day, I’m reminded that education is more than a qualification, it’s an opportunity. One that far too many girls around the world are still denied

As I reflect on graduating with my Honours in Film & Television from the University of the Witwatersrand, I’m deeply aware that my degree is truly a privilege

When we invest in girls’ education, we don’t just change individual lives, we strengthen families, transform communities, and shape the future

I hope to honour this privilege by using my voice and my work as a storyteller in service of others🥺🤍

Here’s to every girl who dreams of a classroom, a graduation stage, and a future she gets to define for herself🎓

#Part2 of an incredible celebration of our history, Icon, and vibrant democracy! Thank you to the @sportartsculturersa for the opportunity! @brandsouthafrica let’s celebrate this powerful song together every year for Freedom Day!

Here are some fun facts!

	1. The legendary Nelson Mandela was the sole inspiration behind the song. It’s produced in honour of the country’s independence.

	2. The iconic 20 artists chosen to represent South Africa embody our past, present, and future, showcasing the nation’s rich cultural landscape and diversity.

	3. @lunginaidoo, @briantemba, and @gregdeanmusic engaged with each artist to meticulously craft their lines. Pay attention to the variety of languages featured in the song!

	4. On a personal note, this was the first of many times I had the honor of collaborating with the incredible Mama Abigail. We hit it off immediately. I adore her.

	5. I totally fanned out at Claire from Mango Groove! I grew up dancing to “Special Star.”

	6. How adorable was @botlhaleboikanyo at the end of the track? Such an iconic moment!

7. AKA was always a delight to work with. May he rest in power!

8. This may be the last music video I featured in as a dancer. Spot me if you can. 😅

9. How young was everyone! Cc @la_keyndaba @saks_mthethwa

10. @lunginaidoo you’re a visionary! 💐

“It’s an ideal I hope to live for. It’s an ideal for which I am prepared to die.” - Nelson Mandela

Twelve years ago, I had the incredible honor of project managing the official celebration song for South Africa’s 20 years of democracy on behalf of @sportartsculturersa.

My dear friend and business partner, @lunginaidoo, called inviting me to join her small team tasked with this significant endeavor. I said yes before I even fully grasped the responsibility at hand.

That week became a transformative experience as we raced to create a remarkable piece of music inspired by Tata Mandela and his enduring legacy.

Produced by @lunginaidoo, @briantemba, and @gregdeanmusic, and recorded and engineered at @jazzworxworldwide the song features 20 iconic music legends. Over the course of the week, we reached out to and managed over 50 talented musicians to collaborate on this exceptional project.

With the proverbial clock ticking we were thrilled to have everyone, except #MissLira and #MamaYvonneChakaChaka, join us for both the studio recording and the music video. If you listen closely, you can still hear their voices woven into the fabric of the song.

It was and remains one of the greatest honours of my life, a true a labor of love, and I continue to marvel at the powerful message behind it. Tata Mandela’s mission remains as relevant today as ever.

BDBA Condemns Anti-Migrant Violence and Afrophobia in South Africa

Breaking Down Borders Africa (BDBA) is deeply troubled by the wave of anti-immigration protests sweeping across South Africa, and by the violence, intimidation and displacement we are witnessing. We vehemently condemn the Afrophobia fuelling the current unrest.

Since 2016, BDBA has worked to connect young Africans across borders while challenging harmful stereotypes and building solidarity across our continent and the diaspora. Africa's strength lies in its unity and collectivism, an ethos confirmed to us by listening to young people's stories and documenting their realities, experiences and contexts through our toolkits, research and storytelling.

The Situation We Face
South Africa is grappling with legitimate and pressing challenges that deserve serious, urgent attention from government and society. However migrants and foreign nationals are not to blame for those structural failures and weak governance. Scapegoating them will not solve structural and governance issues we internally face. This is not justice. This is not patriotism. This is Afrophobia, and it has no place in South Africa.

Our Call to Action
BDBA calls on young Africans and communities everywhere to reject the narratives of division being sown in the fibre of our communities. We call to instead to open dialogue, compassion, empathy and solidarity that we know to be a the centre of our guiding principle ‘Ubuntu’.

Our Commitment
We will continue to use storytelling, open dialogue, the arts and civic engagement to humanise the migrant experience.
We have developed the following resources in order to equip young people to challenge prejudice wherever it exists:

Unlearning Toolkit on Xenophobia and Afrophobia, Racial Injustice toolkit,
Safeguarding the Rights of Refugees and Asylum Seekers toolkits

Africa's future depends on seeing one another as kin. We stand with every migrant, refugee and displaced person currently living in fear in South Africa. We stand for a continent where human rights, social cohesion and Pan-African solidarity are not aspirations, but our reality.

OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT🌍🎤

This Youth Day, I’m incredibly proud to finally share that I am the new face of Season 2 of the Breaking Down Borders Africa Tour!

Almost a decade after the first season, we’ll be journeying across Africa as we explore culture, community, creativity and the stories that connect us all

As a poet, storytelling has always been my way of understanding the world. Now I get to take that passion across borders, meeting young people, connecting with communities, and celebrating the voices shaping Africa’s future

This year marks 50 years since the 1976 Youth Uprising, a reminder of the power of young voices to shape history. It truly is an honour to lead this journey as a young African woman, while championing the stories, dreams, brilliance and challenges of young people across our continent.

Africa we ouuutsideee😌💃🏾🎤
