This is Paul. Paul, or Chief as he’s known, worked in Coney Island for close to 70 years, almost since the day he arrived in the United States. He was born May 1, 1929, far from Coney Island in the seaside village of Oitylo in the Peloponnese of Greece, the oldest boy of seven children. He grew up during WWII, and in 1946 when the war ended, immigrated with his family to the United States. In 1948, Paul started at a milk stand under the train depot when he was only 19. He bought into the business when he was 21 with a $500 loan from his Aunt Julia. There he met a sharp kid from Crete named Gregory Bitetzakis. The two would go on to become partners for half a century. And in 1954, just out of the Army, Paul met his future wife, a beautiful young woman from Greece named Alkmini. They soon welcomed two daughters, first Valerie, and then Tina. In 1962, Paul and Gregory took over the old Howard Johnson’s on the Boardwalk at W. 8th and opened their first concession. They named it Gregory and Paul’s. They lost that store in 1968, when Nelson Rockefeller bought the land and donated it to the Aquarium. Undeterred, they took over the Hebrew National at W. 15th and the Boardwalk and eventually opened two more: one on W. 10th and the Boardwalk with the iconic Astroland rocket on its roof, and the other on Surf Avenue across from the Cyclone. Paul’s devotion to Coney Island and his store is legendary. There is nothing he loved more than to be at his store serving customers seven days a week, 15 hours a day. When his partner retired in 2009, closing the Surf Avenue location, Paul carried on at W. 10th and the Boardwalk. He got a new partner, his daughter Tina, and renamed the store–what else?–Paul’s Daughter. While health problems slowed Paul down, they never dampened his love for Coney Island. Paul always believed that Coney Island was the greatest place on earth. by @paulsdaughterbk

Paul’s Daughter! by @paulsdaughterbk
'Hey Get It Get It!' is the slogan of @paulsdaughterbk on the Coney Island Boardwalk where Paul used to say this calling people in to eat. On Saturday I had my first of summer lobster roll - the best in NYC - at their outdoor bar. Check out my photo of delectable chunks of Maine lobster overflowing in a toasted bun. Paul’s Daughter is Tina Georgoulakos, whose late father co-founded the restaurant formerly known as Gregory & Paul’s way back in 1962. The renovated building was originally one of hot dog inventor Charles Feltman’s restaurants and remains a masterpiece of vernacular signage painted and maintained by @artandsigns ❤️ . . . #coneyisland #coneyislandboardwalk #paulsdaughter #lobsterroll #summer by @paulsdaughterbk
