2 very different slices of House music, Quest Ft Liz Torres - “Mind Games” on Soundpak, was released in 1985 tho a lot more copies became available when vinyl importers brought more to the UK.. raw and percussive, written by House hero Carl Bias and featuring our introduction to the Queen of House.. Liz Torres! The accapella of this has been sampled many times.. brilliant early House track..
Jerry McAllister - “Never Let You Down” another early classic on #DJInternational with an actual song, deeper and more soulful than most of the ‘Jack Trax’ coming from Chicago released around this time, I always played the ‘Extendo’ mix.. Just a week to go and ‘Brighter Days’ return to The Cellar Aberdeen on Rosemount Viaduct on Saturday 26th September for our 3rd Birthday (and my own) and we’re delighted to welcome our first guest DJs and big supporters of the party to help celebrate the occasion.
First up needs no introduction, the name Billy Davidson is enough to let you know what you’re going to hear, quality House music from the past, present and future is our Brighter Days mantra and Billy brings that in spades…
We’re also excited to bring in a great local DJ for his debut, having impressed with his classic deep and soulful house vibes at HypeHouse in Leamington Spa and regular sets at the fantastic Tenerife Funk - Soul - House Fiesta as well as his residency on 4TheMusic internet radio, this will be Ian Donkster Somers debut set in his home town, unfortunately for us, but fortunately for Austyn, he’s going to be away in the sunshine on a well deserved break with the fam, so I’ll be filling with some top tunes inbetween our esteemed guests.. it’s going to be a cracking day/evening of fab House Music up here in #aberdeen, we kick off at 4pm and go through til 10pm and it’s free entry.. lots of local hotels nearby for folk travelling up, nearest landmark is ‘His Majesty’s Theatre’ and The Noose & Monkey is a cracking pub for food and drinks to fuel up beforehand and right above the venue.. #soulfulhouse #DeepHouse #classichouse #aberdeen taken in The Cellar Aberdeen by @paulstuart64

13th September 1986, another trip to Bluebird Records in Luton.. I bought 2 massive new House tracks.. @adonis_recordings followed up the massive “No Way Back” with the equally incessant “We’re Rocking Down The House” driven by a hypnotic bassline, percussion and simple chant, another huge release on #TRAXRECORDS.. then over to New Jersey and a track from veteran producer Vaughan Mason who we knew from the classics ‘Bounce, Rock, Skate, Roll’ and his ‘Feel My Love’ album on Salsoul, but this was heading into new territory, with great beats and ‘Jack The Groove’ hook, this was destined to be an early House classic.. #housemusic #chicagohousemusic #newjerseyhousemusic by @paulstuart64

22nd August 1986 was a big day for House music in my house, a trip to my regular specialist record shop, Bluebird Records in Luton netted a serious haul, inc the soon to be ‘House Music Anthem’ on black label #TRAXRECORDS which was usually the first pressing, the different coloured labels coming after.. An absolute milestone production by #marshalljefferson and a big step forward from the beats and bass lines we’d love about House music, this had a song and hook and massive piano, an instant ‘Anthem’ ..
also a couple of records on #djinternational the first on US import by Farmboy - ‘Move’ and the UK release of Farley ‘Jackmaster’ Funk - “Love Can’t Turn Around’ soon to crash the pop charts a few months later.. both these records featured the vocals of Daryl Pandy, who we saw rolling around the floor singing at the Limelight in London on the second Chicago House Tour soon after, wish I could remember who was DJing that night, probably the first night we had been to that featured ‘House Music, All Night Long’ …
Also in the haul was 2 ‘House’ records from NYC, we already knew earlier productions from Paul Simpson and Winston Jones and this was another great track on #easystreetrecords from Clausell - ‘Don’t Let It Be Crack’ with an anti drug message.. the second was an Arthur Baker production on Pow Wow.. “Back To The Scene Of The Crime” more of a ‘Club Music’ track as we knew it at the time, featuring a fun rap over a heavy bassline, slightly slower beats (115bpm) but sounded great in a club ❤️🏠🎵 big thanks to Colin Watts and the crew at Bluebird who supplied me with so much great music 🙏 by @paulstuart64
