Known scientifically as Lagerstroemia microcarpa, Bollandi is a beautiful native tree found across the Western Ghats and an important part of Kodagu’s rich forest ecosystem.
With its tall growth, distinctive bark and seasonal flowering, Bollandi adds to the biodiversity and character of our forests. Like many native trees, it plays a valuable role in supporting local wildlife, protecting soil and maintaining the ecological balance of the region.

Breaking the stigma begins with a conversation.
We believe that every girl deserves the confidence to learn, grow, and dream without barriers. Through our Pad Distribution Drive across Kodagu, we connected with children, parents, and communities to raise awareness about menstrual hygiene and encourage healthier, more open conversations around periods.
This initiative was about much more than providing biodegradable sanitary pad. It was about educating, empowering, and creating a supportive environment where girls feel informed, respected, and never held back by something completely natural.

A simple paper bag can carry a powerful message that protecting our environment is everyone’s responsibility.
Through this Paper Bag Initiative, we’re encouraging children to understand the impact of plastic pollution, embrace sustainable alternatives, and take that awareness beyond the classroom.
The next step is taking these handmade paper bags to local vendors, encouraging them to reduce plastic usage and support a cleaner, greener community.

Naati Pani - The Traditional Paddy Farming of Kodagu 🌾

With the monsoon, paddy cultivation begins by ploughing and puddling the fields, creating soft, water-retaining soil.
Rice seeds are first raised in nursery beds, where young seedlings grow before transplantation.
During Naati, the seedlings are uprooted and transplanted into the prepared, water-filled fields in evenly spaced rows.
Rainwater and traditional water channels maintain field moisture as the crop establishes, tillers and matures.
Months later, the golden paddy is harvested, threshed and dried - completing a farming cycle deeply adapted to Kodagu’s monsoon landscape. 🌾

Sometimes, the greatest gift isn’t just financial support, it’s the chance to dream, learn, and build a better future. ❤️
At Pavi, we believe education can change lives. Hearing these students share their gratitude reminds us why every effort to support their educational journey matters.
Their words are more than a thank you. They are a reminder that when we invest in a child’s education, we invest in their tomorrow. 🌱📚

Some dishes are more than recipes—they are a reflection of a community’s history, traditions, and way of life. For the Kodavas of Kodagu, Pandi Curry is one such dish. It isn’t just food served on a plate; it’s a cherished part of family gatherings, festivals, weddings, and celebrations that have been passed down through generations.
What makes Kodava Pandi Curry truly unique is its deep, earthy flavour, created using kachampuli—a traditional vinegar extracted from the fruit of the Garcinia gummi-gutta tree. This treasured ingredient gives the curry its signature dark colour, subtle tanginess, and rich aroma, setting it apart from any other pork dish.
The preparation is simple yet deeply rooted in tradition. Freshly ground spices, slow-cooked pork, and the patient simmering of the curry allow every ingredient to blend into a bold, comforting dish. There are no shortcuts—only time, care, and recipes lovingly handed down through families.
Traditionally enjoyed with kadambuttu (steamed rice dumplings), akki otti, or hot steamed rice, Pandi Curry is more than a meal. It is a taste of Kodagu’s hills, its culture, and its hospitality. Every serving carries stories of home, togetherness, and the warmth of sharing a meal with loved ones.
To savour Kodava Pandi Curry is to experience a piece of Coorg’s rich culinary heritage—one that continues to bring people together, one unforgettable bite at a time.

Bamboo is one of nature’s greatest gifts; fast-growing, renewable, and incredibly versatile. It helps prevent soil erosion, absorbs carbon dioxide, supports biodiversity, and provides sustainable livelihoods for millions of people.
By conserving bamboo, we’re protecting ecosystems, reducing pressure on forests, and taking a step towards a greener, more sustainable future.

Deviah Memorial Preparatory School (DMP School) was founded by the late Mrs. Mundachadira Gangu Deviah (Mrs. M.G. Deviah). The beautiful bamboo forest featured in this post is part of the school's campus - a testament to its commitment to bamboo cultivation, conservation, and sustainable living.
