Our sweetest Hal Pal’s energy returned to the universe on Wednesday night - 2 months to the day we decided to adopt this most perfect flatmate. 🪳

We knew when we adopted Hal that there was no promised time to us because of his terminal diagnosis (the reality of life is, none of it is a guarantee). So, we lived. We really LIVED. In two months time Hal pal traveled a lot - we went to DC and he enjoyed life on the wharf; we went to Richmond, VA and nomed on spaghetti and pizza; we ran on the beach for the first time on Emerald Isle; and we ate soft serve and got sand between our toes in Wilmington and Kure Beach. Between fun adventures we spent time introducing Hal to some of our favorite meals, taking long walks (Hal LOVED walking and sniffing), laying next to him on one of his 11 beds, or being fused side by side (he is forever a total mama’s boy).

We miss his soft gentle pug presence that was combined with total puppy play energy and a lil’ tough guy energy when he would see someone walking way in the distance.

We are so grateful to his care teams for their wisdom, love, and guidance during this hospice chapter: @northwoodsah (Hal’s primary care team); Dr. Kristi Crosier (Hal’s acupuncturist) ; and @ncstatevetmed (Hal’s specialists in Oncology and palliative care). Thank you for giving us two quality, happy and comfortable months with our Hal pal. We would not have had this time and true comfort without each of you.

Thank you to @pawsitivelypugs for rescuing Hal Pal from a life on the street and for knowing this special man deserved a life time of love in whatever time we could offer him.

And thank you to each and every one of you- Hal’s friends and community. You grew his world and enveloped him in pure love. He truly LIVED because of you!

Under the care of the incredible @ncstatevetmed OMEGA team (Dr. Kady Gjessing and Catherine McDonald) Hal was able to have a loving, beautiful, and comfortable death at home - while eating fried fish and twinkies. Honestly, we could not have given him a better return to the universe. ✨

Update from Home: Celebrating a Milestone! In February 2026, Grumble, now known as Gus, was welcomed into his forever home by his foster mom. This week, he marked a special occasion - his birthday! Today is our favorite day... Forever Home Friday! We are delighted to feature our esteemed senior, Ginger, who has found her forever home. Previously turned over to PPR by a local breeder, Ginger underwent a comprehensive makeover, including spaying, vaccination, and dental care. She has now been welcomed into an amazing family, where she has quickly become the center of attention, particularly among the children. Hal graduated from radiation treatment today! 🎈 The unparalleled medical team caring for Hal in Oncology / Radiation @ncstatevetmed sent him home with his certificate of graduation, loving little notes from the care team, a photo of Hal celebrating his last treatment (which we immediately framed!), and a toy snake they helped him pick out 🐍.

Show me a better veterinary hospital in the world… I’ll wait. We love you, @ncstatevetmed !

Today marks:
- 1 month since Hal scurried into our lives as our second foster through the wonderful @pawsitivelypugs 🪳
- 3 weeks since we adopted Hal 🎉

We can’t believe this very best flat mate has only been with us one month! We have already gone on a family vacation, began our culinary tasting journey up the east coast, and spent countless hours hopping like bunnies, running, and cuddling so closely you would think Hal is an appendage on his mom.

Hal’s gentle, peaceful, calming presence is such a staple in our daily lives already and his love of life and play (at any age) is a daily reminder to us to never stop being curious and playful.

Happy one month of being together, to our Hal Pal! 🪳 💖

Walter Update: A Positive Diagnosis and a Forever Home! 🐾💕

We are pleased to announce that the pathology results for Walter have been finalized. The tumor that was removed was deemed unusual, prompting consultation among three pathologists at the laboratory. Ultimately, the diagnosis confirmed our veterinarian's initial assessment: cancer. However, the encouraging news is that the surgical margins were clear, indicating that the tumor was successfully removed in its entirety. We are thrilled with this outcome.

Furthermore, we are delighted to share a significant Forever Family Friday announcement: Walter's foster parents have decided to make him a permanent member of their family! As an only dog, Walter, now affectionately known as Hal, is enjoying a life of indulgence and luxury. He even accompanies his new owners to work. As you can see from the before and after photos, Hal is beaming with joy, and we couldn't be happier for him.

We are actively seeking qualified foster families in the Raleigh-Durham area to support our rescue initiatives. Currently, we have a backlog of dogs in need of temporary care, and we rely on foster families to provide a safe and nurturing environment. Through our partnership with local veterinarians in Raleigh-Durham, we are able to provide necessary medical attention, and we also welcome foster applications from surrounding areas. This sweet soul is Walter. He was a stray dog that we pulled from the shelter. He came in with a large tumor on his rectal area, not neutered and what few teeth he ha left were loose. PPR's vet immediately ran bloodwork and found he was in good shape there so he stayed after hours and removed the tumor, neutered, and pulled what teeth he had left. The kicker is that he feels that the tumor is cancerous :( It has been sent off for pathology to confirm. Based on those results we will determine whether he will be a hospice foster or a regular foster. Even if hospice he can still be adopted!
