sometimes I take pictures, most of the time I’m on my laptop covering soccer for @cbssports

I missed the 10 year anniversary of the first time I got paid to write about soccer but I had a good excuse — I was busy covering my very first World Cup for @cbssports!

What a dream it was. Eleven games, 50 days out of my own bed and a stack of memories I won’t be forgetting anytime soon. I might be the first person to experience rondo withdrawal syndrome and the reality is starting to hit me that I’m going to have to pay for my own donuts again but I think I’ll be okay.

Seeing the whole country get swept by World Cup fever is comforting enough. The greatest treat of all, though, was making a batch of friends that made all of those days on the road well and truly worth it. (Can confirm that cliché about the journey and the destination really is true!)

Not sure what I’ll do now that it’s over. Sleep, I guess? And then count down the days until the next one. by @pcattry

17 flights, 10 Amtrak rides, 13 hotels, 16 different datelines, one dislocated kneecap (I’m fine, I promise!), innumerable bottles of Topo Chico and one Will Smith concert I was forced to miss (while in the same building) later, it is really no wonder why my white Nikes are beat up. Bring on 2026!

(correction: I was so busy this year that I forgot four whole Amtrak trips and had to edit the caption) by @pcattry

So excited about this story that I’m doing the one thing you’re not supposed to ask people to do on Instagram — read!

I sat down with Jurgen Klopp for 45 minutes as he told me about why he doesn’t miss coaching at all, why his new job offers the ever-elusive work-lkfe balance and more. Between his accolades and the fact that he’s a quote machine, it was a great chat but above all, it was fascinating to hear him describe the wear and tear of the job. Rare are the managers in this sport who quit while they’re ahead but listening to Klopp talk about why he left coaching, it’s not hard to understand his point of view in the slightest.
