Arthur Mathias was building his life in Edmonton; working as a biologist, raising a family, living like any other thirty-something. Until a stage 3 pancreatic cancer diagnosis changed everything.

Three years later, he’s living with the disease and turning his experience into art through his comic series @hopen.healing - showing what early onset pancreatic cancer really looks like.

This November, we’re asking: what’s your why?

During #PancreaticCancerAwarenessMonth, we are leading a global movement to unite everyone affected by this disease.

In past years, we have turned monuments purple to raise awareness. This November, we are asking our community to unite in a different way. Instead of illuminating landmarks, we are illuminating why we need to make pancreatic cancer impossible to ignore.

We invite you to take part in our #SurvivalNotSympathy campaign by sharing your why: your personal motivation for demanding change in pancreatic cancer outcomes. Repost one of these images, upload your own video, share a few words, or a memory that captures your reason for showing up, and tag @pancreaticcancercanada & @pancreaticcancerna with the hashtags #SurvivalNotSympathy and #WPCD.

Together, we will fill social feeds with the voices, faces, and stories that show what this movement is truly about: Survival, not sympathy. by @pcnaorg

Today, we honor the strength, love, and legacy of mothers.

For many, Mother’s Day is a time of celebration. For others, it is a day marked by grief and a quiet rage - especially for those who have lost a mother to pancreatic cancer.

At Pancreatic Cancer North America, we are driven by the stories of incredible women - mothers whose lives were cut too short and whose legacies power the work we do every day.

Join us, honor a mother in your life by making a gift in her name. Together, we will work toward survival, not sympathy. by @pcnaorg

The truth is, there’s still a lot we don’t know about pancreatic cancer. We do know that certain factors may increase your risk. About 10-20% of pancreatic cancers are hereditary, while lifestyle factors like smoking, obesity, and diabetes could also play a role.

While there’s no guaranteed way to prevent this disease, staying informed and making healthier choices can help reduce your risk of developing it. Learn more on our website - link in bio. by @pcnaorg

The early signs of pancreatic cancer can be vague, which means they are often brushed off or assumed to be something else entirely. Unfortunately, late diagnosis is one of the main reasons survival rates are so low.

If you're experiencing one or more symptoms, see your doctor right away and mention pancreatic cancer. Visit our website to learn more about the warning signs. by @pcnaorg

Staying hydrated is critically important during pancreatic cancer treatment, as it helps maintain energy levels, supports digestion, and improves overall well-being. Getting enough fluids can be a challenge - here are some simple ways to make it easier:
- Take small sips throughout the day.
- Add flavor to your water by infusing it with fruit or vegetables.
- Drink soups and broths to boost both hydration and nutrition.
- Carry a reusable water bottle to remind yourself to drink.
