Emotional intelligence James 1:19-20, Matthew 7:12 Emotional intelligence is the ability to understand, use, and manage your own emotions in positive ways to relieve stress, communicate effectively with others, overcome challenges and defuse conflict. (Prov 12:18, Prov. 15; 1, Gal 6:2, Matthew 7:12) Spiritual maturity is not only demonstrated by how much we know about God, but by how well we respond to people, pressure, provocations and difficult emotions. Infact your knowledge of God is exemplified in your level of spiritual maturity (2Cor 3:18) Note: You cannot always control what happens to you, but you can learn to control how you respond to what happens to you. Emotional intelligence is the ability to recognize, understand, manage and appropriately express your emotions while also understanding the emotions of others. We are people whose emotions are submitted to the will of the holyspirit Christianity did not suddenly make us all emotionless Jesus had emotions Jesus wept Jesus was moved with compassion Jesus became angry at the hardness of people’s heart. But Jesus was never controlled by His emotions (Heb 4:14-15. Luke 22:42) Things to know about Emotions 1. Emotions are real, but not always right (James 1:19-20, Luke 22:42) You can feel rejected without actually being rejected You can feel justified and still need to apologize Therefore, never allow a temporary emotion to make a permanent decision. Note: listening is a sign of emotional maturity. The urge to always want to talk even while someone is still talking is a sign of low emotional intelligence. Talking in itself is not bad, talking before understanding is bad!   2. Emotions is a revealer Sometimes emotions reveal: • Deeper wounds • Insecurity • Fear • Disappointment • Unresolved anger • Envy • Past experience (Trauma) • Unmet expectation • Disappointment etc. Most times, we need to constantly pray that God heal us from within, often times, we also need to ask ourselves sincere questions like: i. Why is this affecting me so deeply? ii. Why am I angry? iii. Who am I when I’m provoked? Because God is not only interested in our service to Him, He is more intere by @pdave9000
