Why does this matter? For one, we should help folks understand the discussion, and two, we’re on a timeline. Portland City Council is set to vote on a revised term sheet on August 12, which would kick off formal lease negotiations and lock in the city’s own financial contribution.

By the way, Dundon doesn’t like what the City presented.

1) What is a term sheet? The City sent the Trail Blazers a 14-page term sheet proposing $573 million in public funding for a Moda Center renovation. Learn more with an arrow. Screenshot of the term sheet.

2) A term sheet is a starting point & negotiation tool. A term sheet lays out the main terms one or both sides want in a negotiation. It signals intent and priorities. The real terms get negotiated (and can change) from here. This is the starting point to negotiate the real terms that will ultimately go in the actual contract.

3) Key terms in the City’s draft include: Non‑relocation commitment: A binding 20‑year agreement requiring the Trail Blazers to play all home games at Moda Center. Labor harmony agreements: Requirements for labor‑peace agreements to support a stable workforce. Financial protections: Clear caps on public funding, limits on eligible expenses, and safeguards for the City, State and County against cost overruns. Payment: A $3 million annual payment for property tax offset payment from Rip City Management, escalating over time, with proceeds shared among the City, County, and Portland Public Schools. Joan Sebastian Guerrero, a 26-year-old Colombian man, was killed by ICE officers this morning in Biddeford, Maine. He is the second person to lose their life in an encounter involving ICE in just one week.

This is not an isolated incident. It is part of an escalating pattern of violence that is putting our communities at risk.

We demand a full, independent, and transparent investigation, as well as real accountability for those responsible. No family should have to live with the fear of losing a loved one to violence carried out by those in positions of authority.

From Oregon to Texas, Maine, and beyond, we will continue organizing to defend the dignity, safety, and rights of all immigrant communities.

🚨 We can’t let ICE killing people become normal. I refuse to let it be normal.

Rest in peace, Lorenzo Salgado Araujo. A husband who spent 35 years building homes for other families’ American dreams, killed by ICE in Houston yesterday. His family deserves real answers.

And it pains me that ICE activity in Oregon is picking up again. If you see something that could be ICE activity, report it to the hotline: 888-622-1510. And follow and support the organizations doing this work, PIRC and Oregon for All.
