Even though the room we usually track vocals in sounds great, sometimes we need just a little extra dryness or isolation. Hence, the new “Halo” device. Honestly, a lot of the stuff in this market does not impress me, so I had to look long and hard to find something that did what I wanted. by @peakcreativepro
Don’t become a creature of habit or - even worse - fall into the trap of making decisions based on brand name or spec sheets. Challenge your assumptions. Experiment. Learn. I’ve recorded countless acoustic guitar parts that sound amazing but I still continue to experiment and evolve. Today’s experiment: 4 mics, one acoustic guitar. Assessing mic sensitivity, self noise, and overall sonic characteristics. Hit follow if you want to see the details and my assessment of the results as I’ll post those soon. #acousticguitar #recordingguitars #microphones #studio #newgearday by @peakcreativepro
@telefunken_mics are taking over my studio. The latest add is the incredible Ela M 260 small diaphragm tube condenser mic. Looking forward to putting this to work! #microphone #recording #tubemic #analogvibes by @peakcreativepro
Ready to be an original? You won’t find cookie cutter productions or generic gear at Peak Creative. We pride ourselves on helping you find YOUR sound - pushing your limits but respecting your roots. We’ve also worked long and hard to also craft our own sound. Take for example our @audioscapeaudio XL305R - an ANALOG reverb unit - that offers gorgeous and unique sound. Thoughtfully chosen to deliver sounds and capabilities that help us stand out from the masses. Or, the fact that we might just be the only studio you can find that doesn’t have an SM57 microphone… yes, we know it is pretty much an industry standard for guitar amps and snare drums, but how can you sound original if you do the same things as everyone else? Our entire setup - from mic selection to console to outboard gear to converters to software - has been designed to help us help artists craft and capture THEIR unique sound. We leverage the best of both analog and digital worlds to give us maximum sound quality and flexibility - and we tailor every decision to the artist and the song… no templates, formulas, or one-size-fits-all approach. Why? Because YOU are unique, and so are we. Let’s make great music together. #recording #mixing #musicproduction by @peakcreativepro
Are you in the Idaho Falls area? Do you play violin? Can you play both fiddle tunes and contemporary or classical violin styles? Would you like some free studio time? We’ve recorded a fair amount of fiddle/violin in our studio but we want to spend some time testing out a few changes we’ve made recently. What we need: a talented musician, 1-2 hours of your time, a little musical variety, and a bit of patience as we make our comparisons and test different aspects of our setup. What you’ll get: bring some material you’ve been wanting to record and we will send you home with professional recordings. We will also offer you some credit towards any future projects you’d like to work on. We will also be taking some photo and video footage during the recordings for use on social media and will also make copies of that media available to you. Would like to do this in mid November to early December. Message me if you are interested! #localmusicians #violinist #fiddleplayer #recordingstudio by @peakcreativepro

“Why have a @telefunken_mics TF47 and TF17? Aren’t they basically the same thing? Isn’t the TF17 just a cheaper version of the TF47?” That’s a paraphrased question I received recently. Here is my quick answer: They may come from the same family tree and have a very similar vibe, but they still have their own personalities. The 17 isn’t just a cheaper, cardiod-only version of the 47. The 17 uses an FET circuit, the 47 uses a tube. They also have different transformers, and a different frequency response. Translation - they sound a little different. The 17 actually has a bit more low end weight to it, and is also a touch brighter/more forward in the mids, while the 47 has a slightly extended high end - a bit more “air” to it and sounds a little smoother in the mids and highs. The 47 has multiple polar patterns that make it more flexible, while the smaller size of the 17 (combined with the fact that it doesn’t need an external power supply) makes it quick and easy to set up and place in tighter spaces. I’m more likely to reach for the 17 for drums and guitar amps, while the 47 is more likely to get first call for vocals. But both can be excellent in a wide variety of settings. Besides - you can NEVER have too many mic options. Match the situation to the right mic and you may find that there is a lot less to do when it’s time to mix! Finished up a session and a lesson today and now prepping for Monday - where I expect to be using both of these mics for a vocal duo. #microphone #recordingstudio #studiotips #musicproducer by @peakcreativepro
Choosin’ Texas - in Texas. Great live band I enjoyed during my travels earlier this week. by @peakcreativepro
The @telefunken_mics #TF47 is as smooth as Tennessee whiskey…. Warm, soulful, and smooth - without sacrificing clarity. IYKYK. . #tennessewhiskey #microphones #recordingstudio by @peakcreativepro
Another session setup for recording acoustic guitars. Same mic choices as the last session photo I shared but a very different approach to the preamp selection and processing this time. The emphasis isn’t on using a favorite setup, it’s on choosing the right setup for the instrument, the song, the artist, and the desired vibe… . #acoustic #analogvibes #musicproducrion by @peakcreativepro
