Children are endlessly inspired by dirt and fully engaged when they are playing in it.

I observed them go through many scenes of dramatic play that involved running a restaurant, having a bagel shop, playing "school," and hosting a birthday party.

In dramatic play they re-engage with dynamics they encounter in everyday life. During their play, children step into different roles, mimicking what they observe in the world around them. This is a form of constructive learning.

Jean Piaget emphasized that children learn through active exploration and assimilation of real-world experiences into their understanding. When they role-play as adults, taking on the role of a teacher, a baker, or a parent, they're constructing knowledge, processing social roles, and refining their problem-solving skills.

A budding mathematician who has been making his way through the Montessori math shelf with curiosity and excitement! Each new material is a stepping stone, and today, he’s working with the Table Top Number Rods. Each rod alternates between red and blue segments, with lengths ranging from 10 cm (1 unit) to 100 cm (10 units).

It's truly amazing to see how each child expresses so differently. I can't relate to being a math person, but there are truly children who are fascinated with numbers and through their own volition, engage in sequential and logical problem solving activities.

Children truly need an environment that honors their own processes and engages them. by @pedagogyofbeing

In Montessori, literacy starts with children being drawn to the materials they explore through their senses. It is these materials—a blend of work and play—that draw the child in, allowing them to experience language in a way that is fully engaging to their senses. In this way, they develop pre-literacy skills while exploring the materials with curiosity.
