How experienced do you have to be on a bike before you Pedal the Pacific? The short answer is… not at all! But take it from some of our alumni.

Don’t let your lack of knowledge on a bike hold you back from filling out the interest form. There’s a reason we started as “hilariously un-athletic girls”!

Only a couple days left until the 2024 Pedal the Pacific team finishes their seven week journey from Seattle to San Diego.

This year’s team, a group of seven young women, started in Seattle as strangers. On Saturday they will cross the finish line in San Diego having spread awareness about sex trafficking, grown in advocacy, and pushed themselves beyond their limits.

It’s become one of our favorite annual traditions! 🚴💙

Each year, we’re honored to welcome the amazing team from Pedal the Pacific as they make a stop at our office during their west coast ride to raise awareness about human trafficking.

Our team had the opportunity to discuss the work being done here in Santa Barbara County to combat human trafficking, support survivors, and collaborate with law enforcement and community organizations to hold offenders accountable. We were also glad to have members of the Junior League of Santa Barbara join us for the discussion and learn more about these ongoing efforts.

This year, Assistant District Attorney Jennifer Karapetian even hopped on her bike and joined the Pedal the Pacific team for part of their ride before they continued on their journey.

A special thank you to Bill Macfadyen of Noozhawk, who helps coordinate this annual visit and continues to support efforts to raise awareness about human trafficking in our community.

Thank you to the Pedal the Pacific team for your dedication to this important cause. Safe travels—we look forward to seeing you again next year!

Checking in!! Hey it’s @mattie_terrell :)))

Wow. It’s incredible to think how far we’ve come. Today is Day 36 of 50. Looking back, I remember standing in Seattle asking myself, what am I doing? Fifty days felt like such a long time. Now, today officially marks just two weeks until the finish, and it’s gone by faster than I ever could have imagined.

There have been good days and hard days. We’ve faced individual struggles, but we’ve also shared so much laughter, joy, and moments worth celebrating.

People who have done Pedal often say it makes you feel capable of anything, and I can honestly say that’s true. Every time I thought I had reached my limit, I found I could keep going. This journey has pushed me further than I ever thought possible, both mentally and physically.

The conversations along the way have been so impactful. I’ve talked with strangers all along the coast, and it’s been incredible to see how these conversations spark something in people, a desire to learn, care, and take action. I truly believe this ride has created space for important conversations. If it inspires even one person to become more aware, get involved, or help make a difference, then it’s making an impact.

With 14 days left, I’m soaking up every moment, the challenges, the victories, and all the growth that comes with them.

See you at the finish line. 🤍 by @pedalthepacific

It’s hard to put into words just how much host homes mean to the Pedal the Pacific team. Most nights, we’re camping in tents along the coast which is a special part of the journey in its own way, but the moment we get to walk through the doors of a home like the Martinellis’, it feels like a gift.

For the past five years, Megan and John Martinelli have opened their home and their hearts to our team. Their kindness and generosity are unmatched, and they have a way of making every rider feel like family. Even though we’re hundreds of miles from home, they create a space where we feel welcomed, cared for, and completely at ease.

Brent and Sheila Dunton met the founders in 2017, and over the years they got the Santa Cruz community involved. The event has morphed over the years and for the last few, the Martinellis generously opened up their home. It’s a beautiful reflection of the strength and generosity of their community in Santa Cruz. Everyone who attended was genuinely invested, not only in getting to know each rider, but also in learning more about the reality of sex trafficking. During our visit, we also got to meet with the DA’s office and learn more about the work they do in the community!

To the Santa Cruz community: thank you for welcoming us so wholeheartedly, believing in Pedal the Pacific, and reminding us of the incredible impact a community can make. We’re so grateful for you. by @pedalthepacific

@olivia.sobie checking in!!👋

It’s hard to put into words what Pedal the Pacific means to me.

Sex trafficking has been a social justice issue I’ve been passionate about since high school (check out my “Why I Ride” Olivia blog post). Pedal has provided me with the opportunity not only to expand my knowledge of the issue but also to grow more confident in my ability to advocate for justice.

While in San Francisco, my team and I had the privilege of meeting with @huckleberryyouth , one of our beneficiaries, to learn about their mission and the work they do for young people in San Francisco.

The Huckleberry Youth HART Program provides services for people ages 11–24. Using strengths-based, empowerment, and client-centered approaches, the program identifies the systemic root causes of vulnerability to support clients and connect them with resources in their communities. They truly do remarkable and inspiring work.

While meeting with them, my teammates and I helped assemble Hope Bags for survivors. We also did this with @ncmec during our retreat in January, and it was so meaningful to have the opportunity to do it again. This time was especially special because we each wrote a personalized note to include with the bags.

Needless to say, this journey has not only expanded and deepened my passion for combating sex trafficking but has also opened my eyes to the many ways I can turn that passion into a career. by @pedalthepacific
