friends... family... flings... this is me posting on instagram again, to show everybody what i've been up to in the past year.

oohhhhhhh boyyy......😮‍💨 there has been joy, there has been hardship. there has been confusion. there has been soooo much love.

i spent a while in my art studio at PAFA. i've been dancing at the studio at UMA as a member of a dance collective. and i've been thinking about my next career shift. it's been a 25->26 kind of situation.

anyway. swipe on to see my paintings + a snippet of my dance progress :-p

dance of eternal love, oil on canvas, 24"x18". after toshi yoshida, c 1994.

an untitled self-portrait...(yellow?), oil & thread on canvas 36"x48".

it's not exactly finished but it is big and it's imposing and deserves to live out loud. some of the sticky notes are made from canvas scraps that are painted and handsewn onto the larger canvas with thread.

a recreation, acrylic on wood, 8"x8". i honestly dont remember the original reference, but i painted this for the Tattooed mom's anniversary show.

another self-portrait, oil on canvas, 8"x8". based off madonna's Confessions on a dance floor album cover. and of course her song Into the groove...

a random lady bought this from me at my studio. i asked if she liked madonna and she was like Yeah, why? because she hadn't clocked the references... isn't that interesting

aaaand another self portrait (the star), oil on canvas, 8"x8".

just some stuff i made last summer.

a matisse sculpture, i think... in oil pastel on chromatography paper.

prometheus by ossip zadkine, in gouache on chromatography paper.

and some angel by somebody... in colored pencil on chromatography paper attached to aluminum-coated paper.

i painted this after a photo taken in mihir's sophomore-year dorm room. in oil on canvas, and then i cut it up and sewed it to a larger canvas i made look like a piece of loose-leaf paper. but ok yeah....

and this is a graphite doodle also on that paper-canvas... idk. hey.

here's me proudly announcing to my dear little followers: i competed in the philly waackdown back in the beginning of june! it took courage and commitment and blind optimism. and what i got in return was a lot of love, a sense of accomplishment, & an afternoon of shared joy in a room full of happy dancers.

i started dancing "seriously" about 3 and a half years ago, focusing mostly on vogue femme--taking @ryleeprodigy's classes at @urbanmovementarts, walking a couple kiki balls with my @kikihouseofparagon <3. i left voguing for a while to focus on other things, but i came back in 2025 to devote myself to waacking.

i havent shown my dancing off as part of myself, because (1) for a long time it didnt feel like i could claim to be a dancer, and (2) despite my beautiful happy life there still exists some kind of negative external beast telling me that my earnest desire to be a good performer is somehow embarrassing.

i have always been a mover!!! at the middle school dance i was literally tearin it up!! then adolescence happened, i hid it, blah blah blah, now as an adult with free will i chase what makes me happy and that is moving my body to funk music baby!

more than with visual art, exhibiting my physical dance performance feels like showing off a deeper look at who i am. with freestyle dance, i can't hide behind any kind of pretense or proclamation of my skill, i can only show what comes to me earnestly in the moment. needless to say i've learned literally so much about myself and how i relate to the world through my time dancing. i don't intend to stop anytime soon.

something so beautiful about waacking in particular is the sense of pure joy that radiates in the room anytime someone is dancing. i feel supported, loved, and free to dance however i want! so if you see this i hope you are reminded that no one is stopping you from experiencing and expressing and exhibiting your joy. 💖 and! just in case you have anything negative to say, i encourage you to tell me directly -> and then show me you can do better :-) 🕊️ by @peebsbaby

untitled demo 3 (l'incredulità), oil on canvas, 36"x48"

after verrocchio, incredulità di san tomasso, 1483, a bronze sculpture outside the orsanmichele in florence, which i've marblized and painted on a black void.

various shades of white and umber lain down along the edges of a starkly lit 3-d form, on a 2-d canvas. i am interested in where your eyes land first, the path they follow, and where they settle.

areas of high contrast ? semblances of motion ? the labyrinth of folds in the robes ? the gestalt, two plenteous figures connecting across a bridge over negative space ? by @peebsbaby

untitled demo 2 (lottatori), oil on canvas, 24"x36"

after an unknown artist, lottatori, discovered 1583, in florence, allegedly a first century AD roman copy of a greek bronze by lysippos from third century BC. ☑️italy ☑️rome ☑️greece. wow!

anyway, this is one of the first works you see when you get into the uffizi. and you can see it from kinda all around! i took some photos and i painted it because it's so stunning.

ok now get this: a couple months ago artforum had a little article about gay iconography in the 80s and 90s. and what turns out to be true is that artsy gay guys would often keep little models of either michelangelo's david (scroll down on my ig to see my replica) and/or these male wrestlers (scroll back up for the replica here) in their stylish little homes. always fascinating to consider the ways art reshapes and repurposes (and recontextualizes? yeah??) itself, to play a new role in a new time in a new culture. by @peebsbaby

untitled demo 1 (la sabina), oil on canvas, 30"x40"

after giambologna, ratto delle sabine, 1583, in florence. if there's one thing the greeks, romans, italians, and pavel can all appreciate, it's the beauty of the human figure. this painting, along with the other two i'll be posting soon, is a demonstration of the sublimity of the human body, its contortions, its physics, its dimension. an experiment in making something as beautiful as humanly possible. by @peebsbaby

specifically, 🤓 the 81 grid panels i completed this past year. (see them in action in my previous ig post!) i've finally figured out how to price them, and so here i am, announcing to you that they are for sale. 🙂

💸 prices:
for each panel, the price listed (see below) already accounts for an average-ized hypothetical shipping cost. $5 if you live in philly and we arrange an in-person exchange :-]
AND: if you want to buy 2 or more panels, i'll take 10% off the more expensive one(s)! 😲 i can accept payment pretty much anyhow, but i prefer venmo.

💭 deciding:
each piece from this project is an oil-on-panel recreation of an existing work of art from across art history. some are instantly recognizable, while others are deep cuts. some are aesthetically stunning, while others are primarily conceptual. and then of course, some have personal significance to you, while others are not so compelling. if you are intrigued by an artwork, i encourage you to google the title or the author, and to form an opinion for yourself about both the original work & my contemporary recontextualization. a huge part of this project is celebrating the inherent complexity of every artwork--form, content, and context--but also it's whatever! you can do what you want.

, grids (2025)

i spent most of 2024 working on these panels & grids. throughout the year i selected paintings, sculptures, photographs, performances, installations that have inspired me, and i've spent hours making recreations in oil on 6"x6" gessoed panels. this has essentially amounted to a survey of (mostly but not entirely western) art history.

after my first 3x3 grid ("matrix") that i posted on here in december 2023, i wanted to make a 9x9 grid (picture 1) that would incorporate 81 total pieces. i took these pieces & arranged them in hopefully eye-pleasing configurations (pictures 2 onward), trying to put works together in a way that either tells a story or inspires critical thought.

the intention of the first grid (grid 1 [sublime]) is to overwhelm, to swallow the viewer up in a storm of art-historical grandiosity. throughout almost all of humanity, art has piled up, as we've explored every direction of critical (and uncritical) ideation.

i'm going to leave the rest of the grids up for your interpretation, but know that they all have messages behind them, reasons for being. if you want a puzzle, try to identify "grid 5 [sanctity]", "grid 12 [cycle]", "grid 6 [mass]".

thanks to david & peter for helping me put these together and photograph them, to lyndsay for letting me paint at our dining table every other evening, and to my friends for hyping me up all year long.

when you think of my art, i hope you consider not just the visual impact but also the concept & motivation behind it. and i hope you bring that same approach to all the other art you ever see, especially as our beautiful world continues to get undeniably more complicated & terrifying.

anyway, i've included at the end a few detail shots--panels i am particularly proud of:

, stamp collector, oil on canvas, 11"x14"

my self-portraits seem to come from a sort of reflexive, maybe emotional, need to present & represent myself. in a way, each self-portrait is a paragraph break (¶) in the short story of my life.

i collect and catalogue signs & symbols as they appear around me. there's an element of that in all the little drawings & pictures i hang around my house, in the tattoos i've accumulated on my body, in the rubber stamps i like to i play with, in the graffiti stickers i leave all over the place. i'm finding peace & inspiration in my role as an artist, a distributor, an image machine.

aside from that, this piece is an expression of joy & comfort & confidence. the feelings in between the cracks of the canvas, infused in the layers of paint & pastel--all i can do is hope that those feelings make it through. taken in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania by @peebsbaby

hello! happy spring!! 🐸 i am selling 3 more 6"x6" oil-on-panel paintings for $40 each :-)

last week i recreated 4 classical marble sculptures in oil. i'll be keeping the first piece (and using it in a later project, so you'll see it eventually), but the other 3 i no longer need to keep around.
