I love to sew! 🧵❤️

I’ve spent the last year working on my master’s degree (in something completely unrelated) and had to put my creativity on the back burner for a while.

But sitting at my sewing machine again feels so right. It’s an extension of who I am, and it reminds me that I will always be a creative at my core.

I designed this fabric a couple years ago and had it printed on canvas, but never got around to doing anything with it.

And now I’m using it to make this pillow, having enjoyed every bit of the process, even the challenging part like documenting it myself.

This project reminded me just how much I enjoy creating, and how important it is to make time for the things that make us feel most like ourselves.

So here’s your reminder to never lose sight of the things that bring you joy no matter how busy life gets. You can always come back to the things that make you you. Make time for them, even if it’s just a little.✨

I was writing this to a friend but decided to share here instead…

Reevaluate and figure out how you can use your gifts (and inner resources) to build on your success now…

This is why I like going for walks and being near water and just being outside..

it’s a reminder that I already have everything within me naturally, just as God made me..

I don’t have to try too hard, or try to accumulate more in order to achieve.

If I can just be, like the flowers and trees, and give my natural abilities the space to shine, I’d be unstoppable. Only thing stopping me is me.🌱 by @peepthevisuals

#the100dayproject | A creative act every day for 100 days.

A chance to be ambitious, to see what it is you’re made of. To build a creative habit, routine….ritual..

I chose to create a surface pattern design everyday, and film its process.

It certainly was a process, stressful especially early on when I didn’t know what to draw or what color palette to use.

And liberating when I worked through all the kinks and created something I was proud of.

Keep evolving, trying new things, competing with no one but yesterday’s you.

Take it one day at a time.🩷

Been eyeing this book for years and finally got it. Aphrochic: Celebrating The Legacy of the Black Family Home.

Finished and unfinished projects:

1. Me —an ongoing project that I work on everyday. Photo by cred goes to one of my students😁

2. Took me years to learn that much of the reason for my unhappiness and bouts of depression was the lack of creative expression. When we share our gifts with the world, we free ourselves and others too.

3. I made this purse using my most favorite, coveted Ankara fabric print, The Speed Bird AKA Swallows AKA Air Afrique fabric. I’ve collected around 20 variations of this print and counting.

4. Soul of a Nation - a book project I’ve had in mind, basically sharing book recommendations using different colorful, fabrics as backdrops

5. Cute little pillow I made using my favorite fabric — the Speedbird — more on that later

6. So I did a photo shoot with @lendelmarshall a few weeks back and one thing I admire about him is his consistency and passion for photography.. it is his art, his creative outlet, something that grounds him in himself and others. He also has Jamaican roots and is a born and bred New Yorker. This all connects to a project I’d like to get started on highlighting other likewise creatives
