POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

"People become vessels for past generations, our peers, our loves, our mini worlds, and our sweet, sweet memories."

Pejah Carr (@pejahc)'s latest review takes us inside VESSEL, a group exhibition brought together by curator Yilin "Rebecca" Sun (@syl.becca) — spanning ceramics, photography, fiber, and more, with 22 artists exploring "the past, present, and future as one long, continuous thread connecting people, places, and possibilities."

Yijia Sun's micro lens photography transforms an ordinary sponge into "a tiny universe the human eye cannot usually touch" — "wispy, almost disorienting texture, different shades of green blurring together to create a dreamy landscape." As Carr writes, "the transformation feels simple, yet it quietly suggests that changing the future begins with changing the way we see the world immediately around us."

Kai Liu's Whispers of a Gentle Tea, inspired by Hayao Miyazaki, breathes life into the ritual of sharing tea: "the surprised faces, the smiles, and the rounded, fugu-shaped teapot at the center of it all." In Liu's world, "the 'mere' object disappears and instead becomes a vessel for innocence, curiosity, color, and imagination."
And then there is the mural — what started as a project by kids in Uganda became a through line connecting all the way to Silicon Valley. "Together, these students start and sustain a conversation across continents. They are unbothered by politics or borders; they simply want to paint a picture of their homes together."

"The artists of this exhibit don't tell us to go back in time again. Instead, it's about learning to be attentive to what we choose to see, what we gravitate toward, what lingers in our memories and how those ways of seeing shape the future we create together."

little bit of a throwback post, as well as one that's long overdue! i could write paragraphs upon paragraphs, and it still wouldn't be enough. to the choir program, to the music, to my loving, kind, and unforgettable friends, and to williams, i thank you for teaching me belonging! this past year, thank you to the choir that uplifted and supported me; thank you for allowing me to create something my dad would be proud of. my gratitude is immeasurable. core memories have been made, retained, relayed, and core memories will continue to be felt.

let each and every voice echo and bounce off of every wall it hits. to all my fellow choir nerds: sing like it's your last. i love and believe in you all! :)

i'll visit ig 🙄 enjoy me slacking off at the end fr by @pejahc
