Free High Res Download Available: As part of the Khyentse Foundation’s 25th Anniversary celebration, Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche is freely offering the high-resolution scan of this original White Tara painting. This sacred painting is the main Tara image displayed on the shrine of the 100,000 Tara puja currently underway at Dzongsar Khyentse Chökyi Lodrö Institute. The painting was originally displayed on a wall of Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo’s residence at Dzongsar Monastery in Derge. The wisdom deity herself is said to have dissolved into the image, which has been known to grant empowerments, deliver prophecies, bestow blessings, give advice, and inspire countless pure visions. It is said that Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo received empowerments and teachings from her directly.

May all beings be happy and create the causes of happiness.
May they all be free from suffering and from creating the causes of suffering.

All experiences other than the primordially pure space of the ground are intermediate states. The experience in which ground-appearances dawn as wisdom is the pure bardo of dharmatā, while all the phenomena of delusory appearance that comprise the six realms of beings constitute the impure bardo of delusion. Thus, bardo refers to the mental states together with their seeds that have arisen from the primordially pure space and continue until they are exhausted within that space that is the basis for their arising. - Minling Terchen Gyurme Dorje

Are you Rime or Rume?: “Once, someone from Tibet came to see Kyabje Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche and said, “I am a follower of the Ri-me tradition.” Rinpoche asked him, “Are you Ri-me or Ru-me?” Here, Ri-me means being without sectarian bias-receiving teachings and transmissions from different Buddhist lineages and sincerely practicing them, while still having one’s own stable and authentic root lineage.
Ru-me, on the other hand, carries the sense of being without a root or lineage.
The deeper meaning of Rinpoche’s question was:
Do you have your own genuine root lineage, while respecting, receiving, and practicing the teachings of other lineages, or are you without a root lineage altogether? Without a stable root lineage, there is nothing from which to receive and carry forward an authentic transmission. This is why Rinpoche asked, “Are you Rime or Ru-me?” - H.E. Before becoming a well-known actor, Benedict Cumberbatch spent about five months at a Tibetan Buddhist monastery near Darjeeling, India, during his gap year at nineteen. He taught English to the monks and explored Buddhist meditation—an experience he has described as profoundly moving and lasting. He continues to speak publicly about how Buddhism impacts his perspectives and life approach. He later visited Nepal, including Shechen Monastery (shown here).
Shechen’s Nepalese home began taking shape in 1980, when Kyabje Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche started building it near Kathmandu’s great Boudhanath Stupa to preserve the traditions of the original Shechen in Tibet, one of the six principal Nyingma monasteries. It became an important center for Buddhist study and meditation, renowned also for its Tibetan sacred art, ritual music, and cham dances.
(Also present in the picture is British actor Chiwetel Ejiofor. This was taken during the filming of the movie Dr. Strangelove (2016) which has some key scenes filmed in Kathmandu.)
