I hiked big mountains this summer * * Breakdown: Whitney: Had lots of snow due to it being early in the summer. Could only get a permit that worked to hike it in a day. Had to turn around <0.5 miles from the summit due to lack of water and hiking partner's unease. Longs: Known as the most deadly 14er in CO. Met future (now current) study abroad friend at the parking lot at 12 a.m., then accumulated 3 other new friends on our hike and played frisbee at the top with Batman, Popeye, and Michael Jackson! DeCaLiBron: Four 14ers in one hike! We started late in the day, so we got some strong wind and a lovely sunset. 'Twas sick. Elbert: Tallest peak in CO. Decided to do it the morning of, so I ended up starting the hike in the afternoon. Did it alone and didn't see many people. Met the nicest gal from my hometown in CA, though. Sherman: Was in town for Elbert, so after getting coffee and coincidentally meeting my favorite hiker I follow on Instagram, I decided to bang out Sherman in a few hours before going home. Made some cool goat friends. North Maroon Peak: Had a few people cancel on me for different hikes this weekend, but I secured a permit for the campsite for this hike, so I decided way too last minute to do it on my own. Hiked alone at dusk to my campsite with improper gear. Took a bad step and sprained or possibly tore a ligament in my ankle (still unclear). Had to finish the hike to the campsite and then had a long hike out in the morning. by @penn.julia
