What a night! Slice Night was sold out, bringing Ohio and Northern Kentucky pizzerias together to support cancer patients through Cincinnati Cancer Advisors. Penelope had her own little photo assignment, meeting all kinds of cool people and making new friends & she may have been the only photographer in the room who was paid exclusively in belly rubs and snack negotiations. 😂🐾 A huge thank-you to @cincinnatimagazine and Fierce Marketing for helping make the night happen, and especially Stephanie from @bourbonhousepizza and @pizzapattsslicehouse for taking such great care of Penny. 🍕🐶

Fresh Check + Penny + the Bearcat = one unforgettable day! 🐾❤️

So grateful to the University of Cincinnati for welcoming Penny to Fresh Check and giving her the chance to meet so many amazing students! Students came together to socialize, stretch their mental health muscles, discover incredible programs and resources on campus, and simply have some fun. Penny was happy to be part of it all: making new friends, meeting chickens, llamas, donkeys and mini horses, finding cool spots on a HOT day, enjoying some ice cream from Loveland Dairy Whip🍦, and even doing the Cupid Shuffle with the Bearcat! 💃🐕

Penny was so honored be part of such a fun and meaningful day at a place so special to us. Bearcats take care of Bearcats! ❤️🐾

🎾🏀🐾 Sometimes, a racket and a tennis ball can mean so much more than a game.

Last week at Saturday Hoops, more than 10 kids picked up a tennis racket for the very first time. They played, smiled, encouraged each other and got to experience something they may never have had the chance to try. ❤️

That moment hit differently for me.

Recent flooding and sewage destroyed nearly all of my coaching equipment: tennis balls, rackets, my ball machine, portable net, hopper, resistance bands and court lines. Years of equipment used to help kids learn and fall in love with tennis were gone in a day.

But the equipment was gone. The mission wasn’t.

I found old rackets (even ping-pong paddles), borrowed what I could and made do. Then generous players, coaches and staff at the Cincinnati Open from the WTA and ATP donated tennis balls to Penny, not knowing what we’d use them for. But I had an idea… and we were back on the court. Coco Gauff said let us all know what Penny does with her balls so this was it🎾❤️

Watching these kids open those balls, jump up and down and take their first swings was something I’ll never forget.

They didn’t see what I had lost.

They saw a racket.
They saw a ball.
They saw an opportunity. ❤️

And Penny was living and loving for every moment of this. 🐾 She walked beside the kids, played fetch, listened to them read and brought comfort, joy and pet therapy to the day.

This is why I coach.

Because sometimes giving a child one ball, one racket and one chance can remind them that they matter and that they’re capable of more than they realize.

I matter.
I control my destiny.
And I AM going to make this world a better place. ❤️

🎾🐾 Cincinnati Open: A Pup’s POV

Penelope’s week was pretty simple: meet the players, make friends with their dogs, collect belly rubs, chase tennis balls, and soak up every bit of attention she could get. 😂❤️

Seeing her running around the Cincinnati Open, you’d never know how different things looked just a few weeks ago. There’s a quick photo in this reel of Penny in the ICU, when we honestly didn’t know if this would even be possible.

Somehow, she made it here. ❤️

Peter Kasprzycki, Pritam & Shana, thank you for welcoming us back & making Penny feel so at home.

And to every player, coach & fan who stopped for a belly rub, a game of fetch, a treat, even if I didn’t 📸 it. Those lmoments meant more than you know.

This was my first Cincinnati Open volunteering since losing my mom. She was the one who put a little tennis racket in my hand when I was 4, starting a love for this sport that has stayed with me my whole life.

Watching Penny make her own memories in the tennis world brought me right back to why I fell in love with tennis in the first place.

My mom gave me tennis. Somehow, years later, I got to be given it again with Penny. ❤️🎾🐾

Mom, I think you would have loved watching this.

The years went by way too fast. 🥹❤️

One minute you were this tiny, goofy puppy who was eating my laptop cords and sleeping upside down, and the next you were this beautiful girl sitting under a rainbow…. somehow becoming a source of comfort and happiness for so many people from all over the world along the way. The lonely, the grieving, the dying, the ill, and the healthy who just need a smile.

But to me, you’ll always be that little puppy I fell in love with.

Thank you for growing up beside me, Penny. Thank you for choosing me. And thank you for making my life infinitely better just by being in it.

Happy National Dog Day to my best girl and all the best boys and girls. 🐾🌈❤️

Hi friends… Penelope has been a little quiet lately, and now you’ll know why. ❤️
We had to miss the end of Burger Week, VOA Fest, and the Night Nation Run because our world changed during the July 17th storm.
Three to four feet of sewage water flooded our basement, mixing with paint thinners and other chemicals, while Penny was home alone.
The AC stayed on and circulated that contaminated air through the house and into Penny’s lungs. Penny later became lethargic and seriously ill, ultimately needing emergency treatment including oxygen, albuterol, steroids, antibiotics, and fluids just to help her breathe and recover.
I can’t put into words how devastating these past few weeks have been….replacing walls, the furnace, AC, hot water heater, washer, dryer, and losing so many personal belongings has been overwhelming…. but none of those things seemed to matter when I was faced with the possibility of losing Penny.
Through all of this, I am incredibly grateful that my girl is getting stronger, and I’m so thankful for every message, prayer, check-in, and kind word while she has been away. 🐶❤️
Penny is hoping to be back where she belongs soon, including hopefully joining everyone at the Cincinnati Open @cincytennis! 🎾🐾

They said “dress like a cow for a free entrée”… Penny took it as a modeling contract. 🐄📸

She worked for nuggets today. I just drove her to the shoot. 😂

If you see a redheaded “cow” wandering around Cincinnati today, she’s just collecting her Chick-fil-A paycheck.
