"IF A STORY IS IN YOU, IT HAS TO COME OUT."
~William Faulkner~
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Check out the second review for my soon to be released book. When this full review was sent, the line featured above took my breath away...and the rest is just as breathtaking. Thank you @penscroll for such kind words.

"Bernie Freytag’s, “Seeing The Voices” is the ribbon that adorns a quietly beautiful package the reader began unwrapping with the author’s previous works. Where we wandered and pondered with Bernie previously, we now get to sit down next to him as he draws us a map and plots each point with this reflective memoir. We more intimately visit life-altering events while channeling creativity, divine timing and a guiding force that pops up every few pages with one-of-a-kind illustrations. Bernie describes his spiritual awakening one stop at a time; weaving fate, spirituality and creativity into every pause. He uses memories to guide us as he explores the forces both inside and outside of himself that shaped his life and identity following his personal trauma. This book is that song that you love so much, you have to stop and look up the lyrics. Bernie gives you the lyrics to the song he’s been humming across his body of work and you can’t help but see the world differently. "Seeing the Voices" is a gift from Mr. Freytag to the reader- thoughtfully wrapped and humbly powerful. Once opened, it becomes your favorite way to see and makes you better for having taken his route."

Gentle reminder;

If some are feeling safe in numbers and emboldened by majority, if some have taken to speaking louder, to boasting and attempting to bully - you do not have to engage. Report. Take action detached from your emotions. You know who you are and what you stand for. This is the time to fortify that and ground yourself. Save your strength for the fight that matters, and pro-tip, it's not the one with the racists, misogynists and homophobes on the socials. I understand how much this hurts; the outrage, the bewilderment, and that slow, depleting feeling like our eyes and nostrils are thirty seconds from going under in quicksand. The terror. The fear that is growing faster than a bamboo forest in so many households. Not to mention the disappointment that keeps taking you back to bed like a fever that won't reduce. You're still you- heart, mind and spirit regardless of what happens in the external world. You're still here with or without the confirmation from a majority vote and this story isn't over because of an election. Rest. Don't burnout. A lighthouse doesn't run up and down the beach, screaming that it is the light in dark water, it just IS. If you needed this today; You're not crazy, you didn't do anything wrong, you're not misaligned or misinformed, you are not the outsider, and you're not foolish or weak. You're a fucking lighthouse - just stand there and shine.

P.S. It's ok to be tired. Ilysm. ❤️

This is the Yoni Mudra
Pronunciation (/fuk' scō' tis /)

The Yoni or Womb Mudra represents Shakti, the feminine power, and can help you harness your power and step into your divine femininity.

Mantras to use with this Mudra PLUS added facetiousness:

*I am; (Breathe in)

(Important, despite the current emotive climate, and devastating social/political agendas that would indicate otherwise.
Horrified. I am more valuable than a gun, or preserving a two party system. Enraged. I have agency over my choices and my own body, regardless of my gender or gender identity, skin color, religion, orientation or any label the nine old white guys turning my life upside down seek to kneecap me for. Heartbroken. I am seen as worthy and equal in the eyes of representative democracy. I have reproductive justice and choices. I maintain the knowledge that I am/ WE ARE the power they seek, and that is, and always will be the source of their condemnation, violence, judgement and discrimination.)

*I am safe. I am guided and protected. I am loved.
I am. (Breathe out)

Also, I am not a Yogi. Don't follow me.

This is the first coven I ever knew. They gathered around tables in celebration and in grief. They played cards, yipping and hollaring like gypsies. Their laughter was the glue that kept you grounded to this earth. It made you alive. They drank beer from cans, and let the smoke from their ultra filtered cigarettes weigh in the air like spirits visiting a seance. They would curse those who had crossed them over a brick of limburger cheese. They cussed and gossiped, and if you ended up being the focus of that energy, I'd wish you luck. The fiercest of Mothers and the closest of Sisters, they made a circle of protection, united around their children. They could make bullets out of their eyes or blankets of their bodies. They could make knives from their fingernails or heal you with simmering pots of broth and tea. They gave you their last stick of gum, their last dollar, their best effort and their most treasured amulets. They checked you at all times for zipped up coats and tied shoelaces. They lied for you, they sacrificed for you, they bled for you and they cried for you. They pulled your hair into bobbing ponytails and told you that you could be whatever you dreamed. They jumped on the beds with you, and pretended they couldn't find you when you played hide and seek, but they all knew where you were, and who you were. They knew your power and they tended it like a Spring garden. They made magic for you in elaborately wrapped packages and birthday candle wishes. They cheered the loudest at any event you participated in. They taught you to believe. They gave love, they gave love, and then they gave some more love. They proved to me unequivocally that women are the source. Whether you're a mama, or a step-mama, a once was mama that endures her grief, never want to be a mama or a masculine that embodies the mama- whether you put curlers in your hair and put food on the table, or put polish on your nails and aim to break glass ceilings; these women fortified you with solidarity. This was a coven, even if they never knew it. I will raise my voice, my hand of cards, and a can of beer. Happy Mother's Day to you and the witches that made you! 💖 by @penscroll

So, I used to use this app for writing, but as the Pandemic settled in, I found myself having less and less to share that I thought anyone might find profound or inspirational. If you were one of the people that reached out asking where was my voice on all of this l, I told you straight up - I don't know. I prefer reflection. I like to look back and connect the dots, gain an understanding of what has happened and maybe then, offer some insight. Maybe then, offer the little golden nuggets I found in the dumpster fire. These last (almost two) years have been different. I, like you, have not walked through the fire to the other side. Yet. However, I have started to excavate a few of those nuggets from the embers still burning, and in that, I wanted to take a minute to focus on my friends @nolasinclinton. This is a small, local business in the small Upstate NY town that I live in. It's like many Mom & Pop places that operates like a family, that supports and contributes to the community surrounding it, and that is made up of a handful of families that work there. The menu is small, and focuses on using fresh and local ingredients to create seasonal comfort food. Much like other small businesses, they've made many tough decisions, restructured (multiplied by variants) refigured, pivoted, worried, stressed, overcome, been defeated, started again, and again, and again. I'm thinking of them tonight, because there has been such a spotlight on the divide between what this Pandemic is; to mask or not, to vax or not. The politics. The bureaucracy. People being angry and afraid. So, we've focused on the lawmakers and the CDC, we've focused on the people screaming about passports and freedoms violated, and the people puffing up about Scientific fact and common courtesy. You know what we haven't focused on? The people getting the damn thing done. The people in the middle of the fray, showing up and doing what needs to be done. The people keeping their paddles in the water, and the people doing so with grace, every day, despite the chaos.

About seven years ago, we sat in not-so plush green office chairs across from our third and final marriage counselor, and on our first visit we received the following advice;
"Get a divorce. If you ever want to have a relationship with each other, this one needs to end." Of course, we left indignant and scoffed all the way home at how this professional didn't "know US," and our 19 years together. And, of course, we didn't recover, or "fix" the problems that were present on that day.
I have since learned that you can't "fix" things from inside the same container which you created them. Some things require you to let go and see what they become. It wasn't easy. It was real work. It took many wars, tears, difficult conversations, and the constant choice to be in each other's lives because we had made a family together. I'm really proud of where we've arrived at. I have the utmost respect for my ex- husband as a human, and the father of my children. I get that most people don't have this, and that is a more popular narrative. The one telling you to be estranged from your exes; to hate them, to blame them, to detach, and it's just as toxic as staying in the relationship that didn't work. For us, we choose to regularly show our boys that we support each other, and I am entirely grateful for the new dynamic we have. We are constantly questioned, "isn't it weird/awkward to do stuff together?" We eat together once a week, and to be honest, it has really taught us grace and given us both a sense of peace. I don't think everyone can do it, (or should) but I'd love to see the dynamic switch from "what a lying, cheating, unstable pos my ex is"- to; "hey, that's the person I show my kids that I respect because they are vital to the wellness and wholeness of their development." If my ex fails, my kids fail too. How could I ever want that for them? I'm thankful today that we had the strength to look inside of ourselves, (many times over), rather than point at the other. And even more so, that we let things end, however painful. I also learn again that everything happens for a reason, and it's always by our own choices what that reason turns out to be. Plus, hilarious. by @penscroll
