A Revolutionary Socialist Dance Party

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

We are thrilled to announce that next Saturday we are throwing our first party in the Bay @lapenaculturalcenter with our comrades in @dsa_communist_caucus

In addition to throwing great parties that give out free cigarettes, CC is known for theorizing that working class disorganization is the central problem of our time. They argue that the priority for the DSA today, and socialists in general, should be to build class power in the workers’ and tenant movements. To this end, the caucus will be raising much needed funds for Martinez Refinery workers who are in their second month out on strike.

Socialist printmaker and internationalist collectro @edlampkin will be joining us on the decks.

We are excited to announce that @aniphoebe is back to play records with us @moesalley next Friday!

Ani Phoebe is a DJ, promoter, and community organizer based in Hong Kong. She is an open format DJ, but is best known for her unique mix of cosmic, balearic, and international records. Her party @badtimesdisco has built a strong following through deep DJ lineups, inclusive crowds, and a political commitment that extends beyond the dance floor. A kindred spirit, for sure.

We’ve got a party on Saturday @moesalley featuring L.A. staple Patrick Billard, aka @djduckcomb

Patrick is best known for his edits and his eclectic sets of disco, house, Italo, new wave, lovers rock, and beyond. In the 2000s, he held multiple residencies in New York City but over the last decade, he became a regular in the Los Angeles underground disco circuit.

Alongside Dino Soccio, he now runs the Pleasure of Love and New Islands labels. Billard has also been behind reissues and re-edits of rare reggae and lovers rock tunes released on Cultures of Soul, Emotional Rescue, Universal Cave, Mister T, and Everything You Are About To Hear Is True.

We are excited to announce that @cosmicdan will be joining us for our party on May Day!

Daniel T. is a DJ and producer that first made his mark as one half of Cosmic Kids, releasing house and astral dance music on the Let’s Play House and DFA labels. We got to know him from his decade-long radio show on @dublab and his Los Angeles-based party Heat-wave, which foregrounded rare international funk and disco records.

May Day is International Workers’ Day, a socialist holiday that sprang from the labor movement’s fight for an 8-hour workday. Join us and @dsasantacruz on May 9 at 3 PM at London Nelson to discuss general strikes and strike strategy in the 21st century.

The link to DSA’s May Day reader is in our bio. You can also pick up a free copy @redwood.records.ca

We are excited to announce that our first party of the year is this Saturday with @abby_imperial East Bay native and NTS radio host, Abby Imperial built a following around her unique sound of 90s New Jack Swing and RnB, mixed with gospel funk and disco. You can check out her monthly show @nts_radio on Tuesdays from 3 to 4 PM.

Each year we throw a party to celebrate International Women’s Day, a global holiday rooted in the labor movement and socialist tradition. The first Women’s Day was organized by the Socialist Party of America in 1909 and was quickly taken up by socialists across the world. On March 8th, 1917, women workers at a textile factory in Petrograd went on strike and marched across the city recruiting 100,000 workers to join them in a general strike that would inaugurate the Russian revolution. Today, we celebrate International Women’s Day on March 8th to honor these revolutionaries. As socialists, we know the importance not only of recovering our history but carrying it into the present.
