With a tiny bit of embarrassment I realized this frame was built by Lester five years ago. Quite possibly the only MTB frameset that has ever left his workshop in Amsterdam. What was supposed to become a track frame slowly, thanks to my legendary indecisiveness, evolved into a gorgeous MTB frameset instead.Large vintage Tom Ritchey inspired fillet-brazed joints and some Paragon Machine Works bits. And a beautiful light sparkling Breezer‑style paint job and headbadge to top it all off.After spending years on the wall as a piece of art, it has aged like a good wine, meaning the idea of building it up properly has only gotten better. Geometry‑wise, apart from the wheel size, it’s basically identical to today’s trendy, state‑of‑the‑art hipster gravel bikes. For example, my postion on this bike is exactly the same as on my Stinner Carrizo.Funny part, aside from a new MTB axle for the White Industries G30 crankset, every single component comes straight out of the parts bin. But that only makes it more fun. No fun bike is complete without a couple of Paul Components. by @peperbek

New bike ride.Ventana El GordoTook some time to get this one just the way I wanted; Paint, headbadge, bb/crank (not your average track bike q-factor). Shorter cranks are great for this bike.Chose mechanic xtr because electronics feel odd on a bike like this.Hope Tech 3 because I like the looks of these more than the 4's (and the load of spare parts I still have for these)No worry wheels by Force WheelzProbably Thomson stem and seatpost #40 on one of my bikesFirst impressions; much more trail bike than my 12 year old Fatback. A shorter wheelbase with the rear axle pushed forward makes it easier to ride in dunes. For all you Patagonia wearing nature woke tourists; please compare my footprint to that of the seagull.In all, it was a very nice project that turned into a great bike.It only needs even wider tires and handlebar to match my smile.Last pic shows the inspiration of both the bike and frame color. Gravel + Fixed = Grixed? A fun experiment made by @whbradforddesigns Custom made Fixed gear all road, tracklocross, gravel, whatever bike. First ride; this fucker flies! Especially on unpaved roads.Instead of a traditional track chain a 11 speed one paired with a Rotor 1x ring and Kappstein pro line cog. This makes for a über smooth drivetrain. Bit more comfy geo and position than my other fixed gears.Paint scheme inspired by early @an_improbable_future designs. Apart from the great execution of the paintjob I don’t have to worry about scratches let alone dirt.As always, no fun bike without a bit of @paulcomponent , my all time favorite @salsacycles Cowbell bar, @bikethomson parts, @forcewheelz hoops and, off course, a @jengreenheadbadges headbadge. #fixedgear not #trackbike by @peperbek

This bike says "My 100% not giving a shit beats your marginal aero gain".Choose this lovely chique @crustbikes Malocchio because it was the perfect frame to fit all the parts I still have of brands I rode in the early to mid nineties. Not all are period correct but, again, my 100% not giving a shit...Most important is that this will be a magic carpet ride. My compliments for the kind people at Crust that still have frames like this in their line up.And, in contrast to what your product manager or online editor may want you to believe, you don't need a disc brake road bike to have ample room for 40mm tires. by @peperbek

As a kid I had poster hanging on the wall of my bedroom of Mario Andretti in his 78/79 John Player Special Lotus. That black and gold car has been etched in my memory as the one true formula one car.Luckily major Tom @singlebebikes is both a skilled fame builder and painter. He always gracefully includes all my nitpicking wishes into my framesets. This one took some thinking to include both room for 40mm tires, a quick and responsive fixed gear all road geometry and work with a "vintage" Enve cross fork. The combination of a 15 year old 130bcd Race Face crankset with a Kappstein chainring made it possible to have a proper fixed gear drivetrain and still have room for fat tires.The rest of the parts are mandatory. No fun bike without a Paul part! Funny how hard it is becoming to get good gloss black parts nowadays. Come on people, matt black is so 2019...#fixedgear not a #trackbike by @peperbek

First @chriskingbuzz headset I bought in 1992 was a 1" silver threadset. At least 50 of their headsets in various sizes and colors followed on all kinds of bikes. Never had any problem with them. And here we are again. 1" Gripnut. Man, do these look tiny compared to current sizes. But still my favorite. #chrisking #chriskingheadset #chriskingbuzz #headset by @peperbek

We need to talk about UDH:Yes, UDH – Universal Derailleur Hanger – a derailleur hanger that’s the same for everyone, always the same. It’s supposed to put an end to the whole mess of proprietary standards, but it’s also causing some major concerns. Since 2020, practically all new mountain bikes have been retrofitted, and for those who haven’t yet, now’s the time, even for gravel and road bikes. The recently unveiled Sram Red XPLR also requires UDH.Now to the point: When I asked @paulhsadoff to build me a frame, he asked if I really didn’t just want the regular derailleur hanger. He gave it a shot, but first had to get the right tools to somehow get it straight. I’m glad he took the plunge, and now my frame is ready for the future. Yes, it definitely comes with some downsides, and yes, the large derailleur doesn’t always look very harmonious with the delicate steel tubes. But if we want more gears and more precision, there’s hardly any way around it.I’m curious to see what the big player Shimano has in store in about two years. I fear they’ll have to come up with their own solution to avoid infringing on patents. If Shimano releases a Di2 group that draws power from a dynamo on the rear wheel, it will definitely require its own connection, in whatever form that might take.
