***THE NICO CIRCUIT***
I created a new circuit! Should I put it together in a handout?!?
.
When a client, typically with an epidural is stalled in dilation try this!
(Probably calling it the…)
THE NICO CIRCUIT
1. Client on their back with a tilt. (As long as baby tolerates)
2. Alternating lunges for 6 contractions. 3 lunges on each leg alternating with the contraction. Lunge must be done WITH the contraction. As contraction builds lunge the leg. Once it’s done swap to the other leg.
3. With the peanut ball butterfly the legs for 3 contractions.
4. Keep the legs butterflied and then lower the foot of the bed so anterior pelvis opens up. Another 3 contractions.

Typically this is a last ditch effort after other positions have been tried.
Ideal with SLR has already been done.
Ideal to do hands and knees beforehand if client is able.

Use when dilation is very slow or stalled.

The birth universe or whatever higher power you believe in knows who you need to be at your birth. This midwife wasn’t supposed to be the one she planned on- but she was everything we needed. Her gentle voice, non judgement, unwavering support and care, and when she heard her vocalize her needs she didn’t hesitate or second guess what was needed.

I mean I didn’t design the pelvis or the optimal way for a baby to fit through it but you can guarantee I believe in optimal fetal positions, spinning babies and more!!!
Utilizing positions will only help and having a deeper understanding of how the pelvis and baby work together prior to labor and showings extremely important! This is one of the many things doulas do best!
