your livestream could be better, here’s why your mix sounds bad:

1. using the FOH mix 🕺🏾
the FOH mix is built for the room and is always PA compensated. having a separate mix can optimise dynamic range suitable for translation across devices and destinations.

2. treating the mix like FOH 🤷🏾‍♂️
mixing decisions are based on your audience, what they see, they should hear. don’t just throw everything because it’s there, focus on how it’s perceived.

3. mixing without intention 🗣️
broadcast mixes have extended creative freedom! utilise the stereo field, use multiple fx and create an immersive experience! make your livestream audience feel apart of the room.

4. overworked master bus 🤬
your limiter is crushing your mix too hard. use compression in stages through groups/buses and let the limiter catch peaks only. your dynamic range should breathe, as you would feel in the room. proper gain staging is also critical

5. EQ IS EVERYTHING 🤩
cut the lows (100Hz), attenuate muddy frequencies (200-600Hz), reduce sibilances in vocals (6-10kHz). these are areas that make your broadcast sound flat and sad. control these frequencies and you will have more space for other elements!

Are you doing these? 🤔
