It’s fun to just flip open the book and see what message you land on. Today it is—

Don’t overwork yourself.”
From Alyssa, age 15

Hello! We are the Peptoc Project! Need some encouragement? You can call our hotline with pre-recorded pep talks from kids! Call 707-8PEPTOC (707-873-7862).

These kids’ voices are from West Side Elementary School in Healdsburg, California. They didn’t know that they could make such an impact, and the hotline going viral changed the way they see themselves as change-makers in the world. It’s received nearly 20 million calls since we launched in March of 2022, with a million calls coming in last month! We would love to know what you think! Please share, and donate if you are able to help us pay for the hotline fees—we want to keep it available to all for many years to come!

Our hearts are bursting from last week’s event at San Francisco Museum of Modern Art! We got to speak about the Peptoc Project alongside other incredible people and the whole crowd was laughing and crying and singing together. What an experience! Hard to capture the love in the room, but we gave it a try.

If you haven’t seen the work of Susan O’Malley yet, she was a major inspiration for our project, and an incredible human who died too young but left a lasting impact on the world. A book about her entire art career was just published, and we are featured in it. “It Will Be More Beautiful Than You Could Ever Imagine,” created by @christinaamini is out and ready for your eyes and hands! We are so thrilled and honored to get to present the Peptoc project as part of this celebration of our artist hero, the late great Susan O’Malley. If you are in the Bay Area, join us at @sfmoma on October 8th at 6pm! Link to event and tickets in our bio or on the SFMOMA website. by @peptockids

We are delighted that a group of engaged people chose to create a fundraiser event to benefit Peptoc! Thank you!

🌟 Heads up, BAY AREA!! 🌟

This Thursday, please join a thoughtfully created event called Common Threads. There will be live music, a community weaving project, and a silent auction!

It's free to show up!

We will have an installation of Peptoc posters created by dozens of young people, and two of our recently created large posters will be part of the silent auction! And if we haven’t met, we would be delighted to meet you, because we’ll be there in person. 💫

“Friends of Peptoc” is a new model for anyone who wants to support the movement doing something within their means by putting on a fundraiser and/or event.

If you have ideas about doing something where you live, please reach out to us via DM or at info@peptoc.org.

Peptoc recently brought their project to 826 Valencia inviting young writers to create messages for their community. Together, we explored the question, “What could you do or say for someone who is having a hard day?” Students reflected on what helps them when they are feeling down.

Inspired by their own experiences, everyone wrote a unique message, and we made copies on colorful paper! Then we took a walk around the neighborhood and hung up the posters on poles, electrical boxes, and even inside the library. You never know when a few thoughtful words might be exactly what someone needs. 💞

These are a few of all the gems they created!

Slide 1: "Your heart can help you change your feeling." Leonardo, age 7

Slide 2: "It is okay to be mad" Aria, age 8

Slide 3: "You need a hug. Have a good day!" Santiago, age 11

Slide 4: "Free Love. You deserve it" with heart and Love tabs. Isa, age 9

Slide 5: "Stop Fighting, it only makes it worse" Daniel, age 9 by @peptockids

Woo! We did it! This is a temporary mural project we installed today for Healdsburg Library. It features messages and art work by local students. Contact us to bring a Peptoc project to your community! More info at Peptoc.org

I called 707-873-7862, a phone line filled with encouraging messages from kindergarteners. Sometimes the words we need most are the simplest ones. If today’s been a little heavy, maybe give them a call. 🤍

Sound on for tape reveal magic. Mural prep for Healdsburg Library, coming this summer! With @peptockids and @asherah.weiss @healdsburglibrary by @peptockids

We are thrilled to announce that Peptoc is included in a gorgeous monograph of the work of our artist hero, Susan O’Malley. It was an honor to be invited to share our story in her book, as Peptoc was inspired by several of her projects. Her legacy as an artist and person lives on through the young people around the globe who have participated in Peptoc. “It Will Be More Beautiful Than You Could Ever Imagine” can now be pre-ordered trough any online bookseller.

Thank you to @christinaamini and the team at @chroniclebooks for sharing this book with the world!

These messages came from children.

Created in a kindergarten classroom, these posters are simple, honest, and full of heart.

In our conversation with Asherah Weiss and Jessica Martin, we’re reminded that encouragement doesn’t have to be complicated to be powerful.

Through Peptoc, children are sharing words the world didn’t even realize it needed—and it all starts in places just like this.

Try this today:
Leave one encouraging note for someone in your life.
Say it out loud.
Write it down.
Pass it on.

What if the encouragement you needed most… came from a child?

This week on Big Little Lessons, we visit with Asherah Weiss and Jessica Martin, the co-creators of Peptoc—a movement that began with student-made posters and grew into something far beyond what they ever imagined.

What started in one classroom became a global project… and even a hotline where you can hear encouraging messages from children.
It’s simple. It’s powerful. And it’s exactly what the world needs.
