Performer of the year. @yycmusicawards
a surreal moment for local metal.

For an original metal band with a 13-year-old fronting, this is meaningful

This award means so much to us and our metal community.

Being presented with it by Calgary Mayor Jeremy Farkas was unforgettable. @jeromyyyc

We’re honoured

Thank you to everyone who has supported us and believed in us despite age, genre, race or odds.

Metal is for everyone. 🖤🤘

🚨 ARTIST HIGHLIGHT: The Blox Arts Centre is excited to feature @per.velum, a Calgary/Banff-based modern heavy band blending soaring vocals, powerful riffs, twin guitars, and symphonic arrangements into a sound entirely their own.

Led by 14-year-old guitarist, songwriter, and vocalist Theo Will, Per Velum combines power metal and groove with elements of progressive metal, metalcore, beatdown, and funk. Their members bring different ages and musical backgrounds together, creating music that explores history and social issues while carrying one clear message: metal is for everyone. 🔥🤘

Per Velum means “through the veil,” and their music invites listeners into a world of heavy riffs, storytelling, and community. From melodic vocals to the occasional metal flute, their shows make room for experimentation, connection, and everyone who wants to be part of the experience. 🤘🖤

Did you know that Loud As Hell has been a sponsor of the @yycmusicawards since it started over 10 years ago?
That's right! We have always sponsored the 'Metal Recording Of The Year' award and present it live on stage each year. That award show is this Sunday, September 20 at The Grey Eagle Event Centre.
The winner also gets the chance to perform at the festival the following summer, so it's a big deal lol.

Some very stiff competition in the category including 2 past winners of the award.
Who will win? We find out Sunday!!!

Good luck to all of the 2026 nominees....
