A bond fitted too high, right at the scalp, is one of the most common reasons extensions get blamed for damage.

Placed correctly, a keratin bond sits far enough from the root that your own hair can move through it naturally, not pulled tight against the scalp, not fighting your own growth pattern.

Higher up feels more secure to some clients. It isn’t. It’s just more tension, held longer, on hair that didn’t need it.

If yours sit too close to your scalp, that’s not something you did wrong. Placement is a decision made at the fitting, before the bond is set.

JUST fifty grams added to Lisa’s sides.

She’s gone shorter recently and lost fullness through the sides that came with it.

The plan for now is to keep the length shorter while her own hair grows through underneath, with the added hair carrying the volume in the meantime.

Louise didn’t start with extensions.

When she first came to us, her hair wasn’t ready for that. We fitted her with a meshless system instead, the right call for where her hair was at, not where either of us wanted it to be.

She wore that for around nine months. Once her own hair had recovered enough to carry more, she moved onto a single row of weft.

That was three or four years ago. She’s still wearing weft now.
Same client, different fitting, because her hair changed. That’s the part people miss when they ask why someone can’t just have “the normal extensions” from day one.

The things I say to every client at the end of a fitting.

Plait it or tie it low for bed. Loose hair tangles at the bond overnight.

Hold the bond when you brush. One hand supports it, the other brushes.

Conditioner on mid lengths and ends only. Keep it away from the root.

Dry the bond area straight after washing, every time. Bonds left damp don’t last.

Don’t stretch your maintenance. The longer you leave it, the harder the removal and the more your own hair pays for it.
