Each of us will get into heaven for one reason alone. And that is because we let Jesus take our place upon the Cross.

Before this can happen, two things must first occur.

First, I recognize I deserve the Cross. I know that in me no good thing dwells and I have no right to stand in the holiness of God.

Second, I receive Jesus as my substitute. I let His death on the Cross become my death and His resurrection become my resurrection, through which I now live a brand new life united within His own.

“He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” 2 Corinthians 5:21

This world tries to sell the lie that all roads lead to heaven. Yet only One came for us, lived among us, died in our place and arose from the dead.

A god that we can earn our way towards is our own god, not The God.

Challenge: Let the Cross of Christ become your Cross, His death become your death, and Life become your life.

Prayer: Jesus, I acknowledge my need for You to be my Savior and Lord. I ask You to come into my life so that I can live it anew by Your Life inside me. Amen.

One day while in prayer I asked Jesus, “can You make me holy?”

And in my heart I heard Him say, “I already did.”

And almost immediately I thought of this verse, “Even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. “ Ephesians 1:4

And , “This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.” 1 John 1:5

And a new thought arose in my heart, “can anything unholy dwell in heaven?”

No, absolutely not.

And it occurred to me that, just as I trust in Christ’s holiness within me to get me into heaven, so I can trust His holiness in me to keep me while I’m here on earth.

The struggle only shows my lack of dependence upon the One who saved me.

He will continue to save me each and every moment until I meet Him face to face.

Sadly, I will still fall short, yet His holiness in me and blood shed for me will always overcome my weaknesses.

I will need Him my whole way home, and in that lies the most precious gift of knowing Him more and more my whole way home.

In this way, I am convinced of the truth found in Romans 8:35-39, “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? As it is written,
“For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.”No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

The love and holiness that died for us on the Cross will live through us until we meet face to face.

Challenge: Believe today that Christ in you has made you holy and live like it

Prayer: Thank You, Jesus, for making me holy as You are holy. Amen.

One of my greatest wake up moments happened when I realized what was actually taken at the Fall.

During a quiet time a question arose in my heart, “did the enemy have any authority before the Fall?”

No

“Then where did he get it?”

From me.

“God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”
Genesis 1:28

Created to rule and reign in complete Oneness with God, yet apart from God, the very authority that offered blessing now becomes a curse.

Therefore enemy rules within our cursed authority.

“We know that we are from God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.” 1 John 5:19

Only in Christ is the power of the curse broken, not because He ruled over it, but because He let all that divides us from being completely reconciled back to Him die in His own body.

“Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree.”
Galatians 3:13

Therefore I have no power over the domain of sin but to let myself cling to the only One who died in my place to redeem me from it.

In Christ, we are welcomed back into the perfect authority of God, in whom we are able to rule and reign through His Holy Spirit moving within us.

“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” John 15:5

“For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.” Romans 8:14

As God leads, I overcome.

The overcoming is never dissected from Oneness with Him.

Oh, the glory of God that would stoop always to clean me, and in so doing, love me.

What a Savior!

I remember leaving the Drs office after getting the results from my testing about the effects of the stroke on my thinking, and memory.

Stunned I learned I would never return to my career again.

I had put myself through college and grad school, graduating with honors.

The year before my stroke, I noticed a hesitancy in me about looking foolish in front of others.

I made sure they knew about my education, yet not always willing to demonstrate how strongly and deeply the love of Christ was compelling me. Fear of man was too often stronger than the love of God.

So I prayed, “God, help me to be willing even to look foolish in the world if it glorifies You,”

He reminded me of that prayer as I left her office.

What was meant to be one of the most devastating moments of reality in my life instead became a praise party as I realized He had answered my prayer in a very real and tangible way.

I would need Him more than ever the rest of my life.

I cried all the way home, tears of confusion, grief, but also wonder and joy at the mystery of God’s will, and the thrill of knowing that He was going to do whatever it took to ensure that I was able to glorify His name with my life.

In the end, that’s all I really want and desire.

I’ve learned to lean into Christ fully because I’ve needed Him so much. I need Him for thoughts, recall, many times even for physical strength and peace throughout my health journey as I continue to face health challenges linked to my prior medical traumas.

Since that day I’ve written and published four books, and spoken at countless events and taught women’s bible studies to too many to count.

“But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that lthe power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” 2 Corinthians 12:9-10

These words tugged at my heart as I read them in a recent devotion.

I know the Lord calls me His own, however I struggle with knowing He’s proud to do so.

What makes God proud?

Is it our religious performance?

Our blamelessness?

Our success?

I’ve never heard Him audibly say He is proud of me, but there have been moments when my heart is burning and bursting all at the same time as His Life within me is pouring through.

And I know that it’s His joy in letting myself be fully His that’s causing those moments to happen.

Romans 8:11 says, “If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.”

Just before that in verse 8 it says, “Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.”

Sometimes we try and live for making our Father proud when all the while He’s already crazy about us.

Our fears and insecurities are what keep us from believing this. So we perform, or even worse, self justify as we enter the rat race of who God is and who truly has access to Him.

All the while, His arms are stretched out towards us beckoning us to come and simply belong.

“…Fear not, for I have redeemed you;
I have called you by name, you are mine.” Isaiah 43:1

Also, Ephesians 1:4, “even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him.”

This means that we are already His and what brings Him pleasure is that we abide in this chosenness.

He is proud to call us His own because we are His!

What can our hearts become as we truly believe and rest in this?

How can our lives be different when we experience what it’s like to be the child on the stage whose Father is watching in the crowd, beaming with pride and joy as He exclaims, “that one is mine!”

You, beloved are His!

He enjoys you and enjoys you even enjoying discovering all the ways you are discovering His love for you more and more throughout this earthly pilgrimage.

Challenge: Be intentional today to enjoy Your Father simply because you are His.

Thank You, Jesus, for making me Yours. You are where I belong. Amen.

We think of selling all we have in terms of our possessions.

Yet, Jesus means for us to sell all we have in terms of our “self.”

If we live our lives in terms of what we’ve given away, we will look for gain on those same terms.

Yet, if we live our lives truly rooted and grounded in Christ, with no “self-life” between, we are not limited in any way, for He is eternal and endless.

Once fully held and reliant upon Christ alone, I am free to look at anything and everything that comes my way as from Him.

And in Christ, even the darkest backdrop becomes the canvas upon which I can look up and gaze upon the pinholes where heaven shines through.

There is heaven above us, and heaven within us. And whatever it takes to discover both more and more is actually a blessing.

“Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12

If something you have is blocking your view of Jesus, it’s not worth holding onto.

And sometimes it’s not a tangible thing, but a part of our “self” that needs to go.

Jesus, thank You for ALL the ways You uncover our darkness so that You, Our Light, can shine more and more through us. Have Your Way with us, O Lord until You fully become our Way, our Truth and our Life. Amen

My family went through a crisis a few years back, one that caused fears and insecurities I have not experienced in years resurface.

And I’m glad we went through what we did. I’m glad that what was still lurking inside was spilled out so it could no longer have a dwelling place in me.

I couldn’t say this then, but I can now.

Psalm 91:1-2 says, “He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”

Truth is, I don’t know my heart. I can’t see the hidden places where fears and insecurities lurk and hide, taking up room that belongs to God.

But He does.

He answers my prayer, “Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” (Psalm 139:23-24)

My whole point in remaining here in this dark world is to live in Oneness with God, to shine the light of Christ until He is formed in me, to fully belong to Him in every way, and in so doing, let my life become an open invitation for others to see, know, and experience Him too.

To dwell in Him means that I live in Him.

To the degree that I dwell is the degree I will have rest, true rest with nothing lacking and nothing to be gained.

Our human nature seeks to find this rest through covering our bases, seeking more and more … yet there is never enough.

Our soul is never satisfied.

Only in Him are we enough and do we have enough.

Only in Him are we truly safe.

Sometimes we don’t recognize the things we are latching on to for security until they are ripped from us.

At once, we see that we were not truly dwelling in Christ, but in His perceived blessings for us.

Peace comes in knowing that the God in whom I entrusted my heart to knows how to get it from me to Him.

Sometimes we experience hard things, not because we are being punished, but because we are being pruned.

It may feel like our life is being turned upside down, yet that’s what’s often needed before REAL LIFE can be poured back in.

Challenge:Where do you dwell, really?

Let Jesus make your heart His dwelling place.

I remember playing in the waves at the beach as a kid and looking up in horror to realize I had drifted far from my mother’s protection on shore.

Feeling lost and afraid, I trudged through the current until I could see her once more.

Just as it happened then, it happens still.

The world’s current pulls me deep into the sea as I play in its waves.

Until, with a start, I look up and realize at once that I cannot see Him from where I am.

“Where are you?”, I hear a voice tugging at my heart.

When afraid, I begin watching for the One who’s watching for me.

And there is truly only One who knows me, who sees me, who knows fully the way that I take.

And outside of His protective care, I fear all I know myself to be apart from Him.

This is how I know He loves me.

He comes for me.

No trudging to find Him needed.

He’s already looking for me.

Sometimes I’m most aware of His love for me when I’ve let myself drift outside of Him.

It’s the Lost child that recognizes her love for her home.

It’s the drifting daughter that most recognizes her need for her Father.

I am not held to Him like a dog on a chain.

I’m anchored to a Love that will not let me go.

Knowing He loves me isn’t a flippant thought I make up to comfort myself.

His love is REAL.

He’s the current that carries me into His arms no matter how hard I try to resist Him.

Where can I go from your Spirit?
    Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast. If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me
and the light become night around me,”
even the darkness will not be dark to you;
the night will shine like the day,
for darkness is as light to you.”
 Psalm 139:7-12

The one who comes for you is the One who loves you.

He came for you!

He loves you!

Challenge: where are you resisting Him? Why not let His love come for you today

Thank You, Jesus, for coming for me, even despite me. Amen

“My beloved speaks and says to me: “Arise, my love, my beautiful one, and come away.” Song of Solomon 2:10

Has He called you?

If so, all there is left to do is arise and come.

There is a very specific reason for the invitation.

And we can make excuses, yet often we refuse because we are afraid. Afraid of the intimacy, afraid of truly being seen, known, loved… or afraid of hoping that we can be any of those things.

I find hope in what Peter said as Jesus called him out to walk upon the water, And Peter answered him, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.” Matthew 14:28

He knew that whatever the Lord commands happens, therefore if Jesus commanded him to come, he would come, even when it meant walking on water.

Therefore the real question is not about your feelings, but whether the Lord is calling.

And if so, He will not only get you there, but will accomplish all the reasons He has for bringing you there.

Is He calling you?

If so….

Come Away With Him

Rushing through the grocery store parking lot a few years ago I remember saying out loud, “Lord, I’m so happy today!”

And immediately His voice sprung up from my heart, “that’s because you’ve let Me be your only expectation.”

Since then, I’ve tried to catch the little foxes in my head that dart about trying to rob me of the joy of simply looking for Jesus in every moment, interaction, and opportunity.

“You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:13

I once associated this verse with striving to give God my whole heart, as if I have any ability to do such a thing.

I cannot give God my whole heart for I don’t even know the truth and depth of my own heart. But I can seek His heart. I can make a thousand, maybe a million tiny decisions each day to reject anything and everything that pulls me from or blocks my view of seeing only Him.

I can let Him become my only expectation, and in so doing, find Him throughout my moments, my circumstances, my days.

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” When I set my heart towards expecting only Jesus, this hope springs forward, leading towards Him, which is somewhere I can never arrive on my own.

One day I will see Him, I will look upon His face with my eyes, and at last my heart will rejoice in full as it lays hold of the One I’ve been expecting my whole life.

Challenge: Set your heart in expectation of seeing Jesus today. Look for Him in your moments, interactions, and circumstances.

Prayer: Jesus, as we set our hearts to You today, let us find You in our moments and interactions. Help keep the eyes of our hearts on You alone. Amen.

“Where are you?” Genesis 3:9

It’s the saddest question in all the Bible for it represents Adam’s departure from God, from love and from life.

Outside of God’s covering, Adam hid inside an earthly one.

I can look down at him if I didn’t so often do the same.

I hear this same question pop up in my heart.

“Where are you?”

When I’m seeking answers here, when I’m feeling insecure here, when I’m feeling unloved here.

All these feelings are the fruit of leaving the eternal Life I’ve already received in Christ.

“And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.” John 17:3

Knowing Jesus IS eternal Life, and in Him, I’ve got all I need.

Identity

Glory

Life

Love

Home

I am One with Christ and the Father, so truly what more can I ask for?

“The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one, I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me.“ John 17:22-23

The world keeps us hungry and thirsty for more, and the evidence that we’ve left the eternal Life of God is that we think we need More ________.

Yet, the opposite is also true, in Christ, we are connected to eternal life, and Oneness with the Father and Son.

So, no matter our earthly circumstances, we know we’ve got all we need within our Oneness with Christ.

Knowing You, Jesus, is Life and we praise You that, because of Your Cross, this Life begins now and extends through all eternity. Thank You for the eternal Life atmosphere we can have in You. Amen.

Didn’t get many pics during this parents weekend as our weekends are usually spent trying to help Hope sell her artwork during parents weekend market.

She’s working hard to raise funds to study in France this summer.

Here is her with just a couple of her art pieces … the top one in black and white is hers as well as the Birkenstock made from masking tape (who knew)?

We are super proud of her and excited for all in store as she pursues art and graphic design.
