Silver Boxster, roof down, parked on grass on a Sunday.

This is the car people buy when they have stopped caring what anyone thinks about the badge on the back. Mid engine, no back seats, no compromise made for anybody else.

It has spent twenty years being called the cheap Porsche. It has never once driven like one.

Two GT3 RS, two generations, parked about 10 meters apart.

The green one still looks like a road car that got angry. The red one looks like it escaped from a paddock and drove itself here.

I know which way the badge is heading. I am not certain I want it to.

The 911 Turbo has always been the quiet one.

No enormous wing, no stripes, nothing shouting across a field. It just does the job, in any weather, with your bags in the front.

People say sensible 911 like it is an insult.

Two hours, two stops, six marques.
Route 11 on the A11 for coffee, then 45 Fuel at Snetterton. A Revuelto, a 600LT, a DB11 Volante, a widebody 993 parked next to a 996, an M5 and a California T.
All six are marques we now cover. Ten in total.

Bonnet up on the Cobra, which is where half the appeal lives.

Wooden wheel, painted dash, gauges that look like they came off a boat. No screens, nothing to configure, nothing at all between you and a very large engine.

This is a dream car and I would take one tomorrow.

Most AI pricing tools see a car as three numbers. Age, mileage, owners.

That works for a hatchback. It falls apart on a performance car.

Two 996s with the same year and miles can be thousands apart. Manual or Tiptronic. The right options or none. A history you'd trust or one you wouldn't.

None of that is in the three numbers. It's in the spec and the paperwork.

So I don't let a model decide what a car is. Every spec in our reports comes from a baseline checked by hand. The model writes the explanation. It doesn't get to guess the facts.

It's slower. But I've watched a model call a Cayman a "Cayman Carrera" because it was wearing Carrera Classic wheels. Hand-checked baselines are why that can't happen in a report.

3.6 seconds to 62 mph with the ZF eight-speed. The AMR with the manual makes the same power, takes 4.0 seconds, and runs to 200 mph rather than 195.

Same badge, same engine, four tenths and five miles an hour apart, and a very different ownership experience. Worth establishing which one is in the advert.

Lotus quote 5.9 seconds to 100 km/h for the first Elise models and 690 to 770 kg across the range.

S1 values have moved a long way and the good ones and the tired ones now look similar in photographs. They do not look similar underneath.
