BUILT FOR MORE | ALEX JOHNSON

Introducing Alex Johnson, one of our PTs at Performance Gym, in our new series where we get to know the people behind the coaching.

With 20 years of training experience and over 14 years helping others reach their potential, Alex brings a wealth of knowledge, alongside his own experience competing as a classic bodybuilder.

For Alex, coaching goes beyond the gym floor. It’s about building confidence, developing resilience and helping people realise what they’re capable of, both physically and mentally.

Whether you’re chasing a new goal, rebuilding after an injury or simply looking to become a stronger version of yourself, it starts with showing up and putting in the work.

When you join Performance Gym Irvine, we make sure you know exactly where to start and feel confident getting set up properly.

Alongside our standard gym inductions, we offer tailor-made training and nutrition programmes included in your membership at no extra cost.

Before creating your programme, we take the time to understand your individual circumstances, ensuring your plan fits around your lifestyle, family commitments, injuries, sport-specific goals, food intolerances and more.

We also offer a service called Training Assist, where one of our staff members will take you through your bespoke training programme, showing you how to use every machine safely and correctly while ensuring you feel confident executing each exercise.

And if you ever need a refresher, all our machines feature QR codes. Simply scan with your phone to watch a demonstration of how to use the equipment and perform the exercise correctly.

At Performance Gym, we’re here to support you every step of the way.

What training programme works best for you?

For the majority of people, the specific programme you choose matters far less than how well you execute it.

What really matters:

1. Consistency
Stick to your programme, track your progress and give it time. Combined with progressive overload, consistency is what drives results.

2. Intensity
You need to push yourself. Training should be challenging, and you should be willing to get uncomfortable to create the stimulus needed to progress.

3. Accuracy
Your technique matters. Make sure your form is on point, your reps are controlled and you’re actually targeting the muscle you’re trying to train.

There’s no perfect programme — find one that works for you, execute it properly and stay consistent.
