Ten years ago, three new University of Iowa arts buildings opened with great fanfare, marking a major milestone in the university’s recovery from the devastating 2008 flood. It was the beginning of a whole new era for two of our beloved Performing Arts facilities: Hancher Auditorium and Voxman Music Building.

A decade later, that momentum continues through internationally recognized performances, ambitious student exhibitions, innovative teaching and research, and collaborations that connect the university with Iowa City and communities across the state.

COMING SOON: 🎼 "Ode to Voxman,” a new work created by composer, music producer, actor, and UI alumnus Scott Icenogle! He will premiere the full recording of his original composition at the Voxman 10th Anniversary Celebration event on Thursday, Oct. 29, 2026. (Link in bio for details)

@ScottIcenogle, a 1991 @uiowaclas Communication Studies graduate and proud @hawkeyemarchingband alum, transformed his fond UI memories into “Ode to Voxman,” an orchestral work inspired by the university where two interests that once occupied different parts of his life—communication and music—began developing side by side.

Scott composed the piece in collaboration with his longtime music production partner @liorrosner_ to commemorate Voxman's 10-year milestone. by @performingartsatiowa

What if the thing you love outside your major becomes your career?

For @scotticenogle, studying communication and playing in the Hawkeye Marching Band helped shape a career in music and entertainment.

After working as the original DJ on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and producing music for major artists, this CLAS alum is bringing his talents back to Iowa.

His latest project? "Ode to Voxman," an original orchestral composition inspired by his Iowa memories and created in collaboration with longtime music production partner @liorrosner_.

Scott's advice to students? "Never lose touch with that other thing that you're excited about doing, because it balances you."

Your interests don't have to fit into one box. Sometimes, they come together in ways you never expected. A large orchestra rehearsal featuring numerous musicians playing various instruments such as strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion. The conductor stands at the center, facing the orchestra. In addition to celebrating the 50th anniversary of the University of Iowa's Bachelor of Arts in Dance, this fall the Department of Dance moved into our new building! On September 24 we will celebrate with our full community with a community ribbon-cutting event starting at 3:30 p.m.
