✨ Spacemaking Is Culture Work

In the final installment of Access Is Love, @briennefrombronx calls us into deeper alignment:
Showing up for our people means building spaces that already consider fat and disabled bodies. It means recognizing that our artistry is not an afterthought—it’s essential.

Let’s shift the narrative:
Not “Why do accommodations cost so much?”
But “Why do our systems make loving access so hard?”

🌀 Community power looks like:
 – Offering access info before being asked.
 – Saving transfer arm seats like it’s second nature.
 – Asking “What would you shift?” instead of assuming comfort.
 – Practicing access like ritual. Like culture. Like love.

Artists and cultural workers shape the future. If we’re serious about transformation, we must make intersectional accessibility a baseline, not a bonus.

✨ You Can’t Confidence Yourself Out of Oppression
In this Vital Conversations episode, @briennefrombronx opens up about the quiet grief of missing moments… not because of lack of confidence, but because the world wasn’t built with fat, disabled bodies in mind.
This one is about sadness, regret, and the deep frustration of constantly having to ask:
 “Will I be safe here?”
“Will I be welcomed—or just tolerated?”
“Is it even worth the energy to ask for what I need?”

💬 Fat Truths & Realities Pt. 2 is here.
In this continuation of our Vital Conversations series, @briennefrombronx reflects on what it means to navigate the world as a fat, chronically ill cultural worker, and what access really looks like when we center care, not convenience.

Who gets to show up in our creative spaces?
Who do we design for?
What if access IS the art?

✨ New from the USDAC Vital Conversations series:
Access is Love: Spacemaking for Fat & Disabled Artists
Join @briennefrombronx in conversation with fat fashion designers @peridot_robes and @shopjoytoast, filmed at the JOYTOAST studio in Chicago, IL.
This episode reflects on how fat and disabled artists navigate creative spaces, and what it means to build ones rooted in care, access, and belonging. 💞
Peridot Robes and JOYTOAST are online shops making space for fat joy and fashion justice.
🎥 Stay tuned for the next episode of Vital Conversations
 🤝 In collaboration with @peridot_robes + @shopjoytoast
