Versailles was becoming a bit tedious, so naturally, she took up the cello.

Court life was exhausting. The wigs were heavy. The gossip was relentless. Someone was always complaining about the national debt.

So she packed several completely reasonable yards of silk, grabbed her cello, and retired to a château in the French countryside to pursue the arts.

When asked whether perhaps all of this was a little excessive, Her Majesty declined to comment.

After all, if one must play the cello… one should really have a château.

That’s not a violin.

It’s a viola — and this is why every string ensemble needs one.

Slightly larger. Slightly deeper. And sitting right in that gorgeous middle register that gives a string ensemble its warmth and richness.

The violin may carry the melody.
The cello may give you the bass.

But the viola?

She fills in everything in between. ✨

The harmonies. The inner voices. The warmth. The texture that makes four individual instruments suddenly sound like one ensemble.

It’s why I call the viola the meat and potatoes of the string quartet.

And every once in a while, she gets to step out of the middle and remind everyone exactly what she can do.

Featuring our beautiful violist Anna on Love Story by Taylor Swift.

We said luxury wedding strings. We never said we’d behave.

Beetlejuice, Part II—because apparently once you summon the quartet, there’s no getting rid of us.

Elegant? Yes.
Refined? Usually.
Strange and unusual? Absolutely.

Your wedding music does not have to sound like everyone else’s.

Luxury music, cultivated… and occasionally deceased.

From the moment these two were together, it was obvious they had found someone who truly understood them. The way they laughed, comforted each other through the tears, and celebrated every moment made their wedding day feel so genuine.

Surrounded by the beauty of the Port St. Lucie Botanical Gardens, they promised forever in a way that felt completely and unapologetically them—and that’s what made it so special.

When you find the person who feels like home, everything else just falls into place.

Do you love intimate garden weddings as much as we do? 🌿✨

Ever notice there’s no conductor?

That’s not an oversight—it’s actually historically appropriate.

During the Baroque period (roughly 1600–1750), orchestras were much smaller than the massive symphony orchestras we think of today. Instead of standing in front of the ensemble with a baton, leadership usually came from the concertmaster (first violin) or the keyboard player (often the harpsichord), who directed while performing.

Because the ensemble was intimate, musicians relied on eye contact, breathing together, and listening closely to one another. Rather than following a conductor’s gestures, they created the music collaboratively.

The full-time conductor as we know it didn’t become common until orchestras grew much larger in the late 18th and especially the 19th century, when coordinating dozens—or even hundreds—of musicians became far more challenging.

There’s something incredibly special about performing this repertoire the way it was originally intended: chamber-sized forces, constant communication, and musicians leading each other in real time.

Sometimes the best leadership isn’t standing in front of the orchestra—it’s happening within it.

The afterlife called. They wanted a string quartet. 💀🎻

A little strange, a little unusual, and just the right amount of unhinged. Because who says a string quartet has to behave?

Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice… we probably shouldn’t say it a third time. 🖤💚

There are places you visit for their beauty, and there are places that remind you why you chose a life in music.

The Palais Garnier is both.

Opened in 1875 and designed by Charles Garnier, this extraordinary opera house comes from an era when music was not simply entertainment—it was ceremony, culture, fashion, architecture and spectacle woven together.

And grandeur is everywhere here.

The marble staircases. The gilded balconies. The chandeliers. The velvet and gold. The painted ceilings. Even the building itself feels orchestrated—layer upon layer of detail, drama and beauty.

As a classical musician, standing inside the Palais Garnier felt different from simply visiting another magnificent Parisian landmark. This is part of the history of my art form—a place belonging to generations of composers, conductors, singers, dancers, orchestras and audiences who understood that music deserved extraordinary surroundings.

But I also found myself seeing it through the eyes of the woman who created Perle Noire.

So much of what I wanted this company to represent lives here: classical tradition without feeling ordinary. Opulence without apology. Beauty treated not as an embellishment, but as something worthy of pursuit in its own right.

Because music has never existed only in the notes.

It exists in the room. In the atmosphere. In the anticipation before the first note is played. In what an audience sees, hears and feels.

That philosophy has shaped Perle Noire from the beginning. I never wanted to create simply another string ensemble. I wanted to create an experience—a world where the musicianship, presentation and atmosphere all belong to the same story.

Standing beneath the gilded ceilings of the Palais Garnier, surrounded by nearly 150 years of musical history, I was reminded of something beautifully simple:

For centuries, we have built extraordinary spaces because we believed music deserved extraordinary surroundings.

Perle Noire was created in that same spirit.

Luxury music, cultivated.

The string quartet chooses violence.

We were very elegant right up until this part. We swear.

Bohemian Rhapsody, but make it Perle Noire.
