Anyone who knows @perma_collective knows we have gone to great lengths to challenge both process and behaviour – on our shoots and across the wider industry. As a production company, we spent years digging into how we work, looking for ways to reduce our impact through better choices and better behaviours. Whether it’s measuring meals, energy or travel, getting to grips with the data is what really empowers positive change. This journey led us to develop Carbon Department – a reporting service that collects, measures and reports carbon footprints for both photoshoots and businesses. In 2024, we partnered with our dear friends Kath Cotton and Chris Tredwell from @saltthinking, to measure the impact of their strategic creative agency. 12 months in the making, we have now completed and published their first GHG report. I'd like to give a huge shout out to our queen of carbon, Jess Gage, who worked closely with Priyanka D. Shah to gather the data needed. We used the Greenly calculator to measure the footprint and we partnered with @nicole_feuersenger to visualise the data into an easy read report, summarised in this one-off poster graphic. @saltthinking were already making conscious choices to reduce their emissions. At 37.4 tCO2e, their base year footprint is small however creating a GHG report gives them a very clear picture of their impact – and a solid foundation to grow their agency with both people and planet in mind. by @perma_collective
Celebrating 75 years of F1 in serious style 🏁 Liam recently joined forces with the brilliant @deanmartindale and @kodemed to deliver a fashion-fuelled tribute to Formula 1, in partnership with @onemethod @f1 and @theofficialselfridges as part of their 75 Years of F1 celebrations. @perma_collective steered the project – managing cast, locations and shoot logistics alongside head of photo Chris and Liz from Kode. Shot inside a retro North London house (shoutout to @thelocationguys) packed with vintage F1 memorabilia, the campaign brings 70s flair with a full-throttle twist. Huge thanks to the team for pulling this off – all plates spinning beautifully. A pause, a pivot, and a quiet evolution After a busy few years of creativity, collaboration and exploration, we’ve decided to take a pause. This isn’t goodbye – more a moment to reflect, regroup and breathe. We’re still available for work, always up for a meaningful brief, and will continue to support our existing clients. However, we’re stepping back from the noise for a little while. The creative industry is changing at pace. While we’ve had the joy of working on some beautiful briefs, this year the volume of work hasn’t been enough to sustain our current model. Perma Collective takes its name from permaculture – a system rooted in care, observation and balance. We’ve always found deep synergy between its principles and the way we work. And just like in a well-designed ecosystem, this moment calls for thoughtful change. So we’re evolving – using the time to grow both personally and professionally. We’re exploring new ways to work – as creative shoot producers, consultants and within the emerging world of AI. We’re building new connections and strengthening our networks. This shift gives us space to rethink, reimagine and realign. We’re challenging our habits, embracing change and responding to the reality of the market with open eyes and open minds. This feels like a positive step for us both. You may not see as many social posts from Perma for now. Our time will be spent differently – with more space to think, to learn and to grow. We’ll be back. With warmth and gratitude, Camilla & Liam Photo: Andreas-Lindgren-unsplash by @perma_collective

Carbon Department – your in-house partner for a greener future Whether you’re a freelancer, a creative agency, a production company or somewhere in between, Carbon Department offers a simple, effective way to take control of your environmental impact. Over the past five years, Camilla and I dived headfirst into the sustainability rabbit hole, determined to find solutions that would enable us to produce shoots with a reduced environmental footprint. We use data to drive behaviour change and inform our choices, which in turn has enabled us to transition our business towards a greener future. With the support of our clients, crew and agencies, we’ve learned how to reduce our project impact. Using all the practical knowledge we’ve gained over the years, we’ve developed our learnings into two new core services. Carbon Department Production Impact Reports. We’ve designed our production impact reports as a cost-effective and efficient solution for small businesses. We collect, measure and report on your production’s impact, allowing you to concentrate on delivering the creative. We use industry-recognised calculators such as AdGreen. Our reports can be shared upstream to clients as part of their scope 3 reporting, and downstream to crew and suppliers to help inform better practices. Project reporting is a great starting point – and a highly effective tool for helping you reduce your impact. Carbon Department GHG Reports A Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Report is an in-depth look at your business operations. We collect, measure and report on a company’s operational footprint using a hybrid approach, combining both financial and activity data. Our focus is on behaviour – helping you understand your footprint, set meaningful reduction targets, track your progress and support your journey towards a more sustainable way of working. The aim is to help you actively reduce your impact and embed sustainable behaviours into the fabric of your decision-making process. by @perma_collective
Change is part of life. As the slow, restful, quiet winter season closes, spring arrives with the changing of the clocks. Mornings feel instantly brighter. The air is fresh and the trees begin to unfurl new leaves. Apple blossom is full of life, with the gentle hum of bees enjoying its sweet nectar. The sun rises in shades of pink and orange. We feel rested, re-energised and ready for the challenges ahead. For many, this has been a slow start. Change brings challenges. How we respond to change will define us. When we started Perma, we chose to build a business who's focus balanced people, planet and profit. We let go of old behaviours that no longer served us, and we have replaced them with a new standard – one that takes a holistic view of change, deeply rooted in nature. Perma Collective takes its name from #Permaculture – twelve guiding principles that, when used together, help us creatively redesign both our environment and our behaviours. As the seasons change, so must we. Principle 12 tells us to creatively use and respond to change. It reminds us that change isn’t just about now, but about the future. We can – and should – design for change, understanding that things will evolve over time: the seasons, attitudes, our climate. We evolve with change. We lean into the new. This month marks our first #BCorpMonth2025 as a certified business! From day one, we built our company with people and planet at the centre of our operation. We achieved our B Corp certification in May 2024. Going through the B Corp assessment felt like a natural step, one that aligned with our values and mission. We were proud to achieve certification on our first attempt with a score of 80.4. As a small, founder-led business with no employees, we couldn’t access an entire section of the assessment, making our achievement feel even more rewarding. We wholeheartedly believe in the values and power of the B Corp movement. However, the journey isn’t easy, especially for a micro-business. The process requires time, energy, and ongoing commitment. And the work doesn’t stop once you’re certified; maintaining the standard means continuous improvement and investment. Looking back, we might have waited a few more years before starting the process. For any business considering certification, we’d recommend speaking to other B Corps first. Understanding the commitment upfront is key. It’s not just a certification, it’s a long-term responsibility. The B Corp movement is filled with businesses proving that companies can, and should be, a force for good. It’s inspiring to be part of a community of brands driving real social and environmental change. The work they do isn’t just innovative, it’s essential. Reflecting on the journey, we believe that whether a business has the badge or not, being purpose-led is what truly matters. Understanding and staying true to core values is critical as they should be the driving force behind every decision. Our goal has always been to build a business that gives more than it takes, contributing to a world where economic success goes hand in hand with social and environmental responsibility. Every day, seeing the B Corp logo on our business reminds us why we do what we do. Business isn’t easy, but it should always stand for something. @bcorporation @bcorpuk @perma_collective #GenB #SharedNotSecret #SustainableProduction #permacollective #Shootproduction #communityovercompetition #Adproduction #photographyproduction #photograph by @perma_collective
