Ode to Ben Rosenblum - Accordion. Although he was a NYC based musician when we first met in October 2024, I had to travel to Terceira Island in the Azores, an archipelago of 9 Islands, a part of Portugal, to discover him. Ben was leading his Nebula Project and playing piano and accordion at the 25th Angra Jazz Festival, the night following Catherine Russell's appearance. I immediately fell in love with Ben's "thing," his sensitivity, eclectic influences, and incredible chops as a player, composer, and leader. And as I suspected, Ben was also a masterful and highly in demand accompanist and band member (Ricki Lee Jones, Laura Anglade, Kiran Ahluwalia), a role he would soon fulfill with Catherine Russell, joining her band for gigs in Tokyo, Bulgaria, theaters across Spain, New Year's Eve in Boston, and most recently at Caffe Lena. In the midst of all of this, I was so fortunate to have Ben play accordion on two tracks on my Willingness EP, "No One To Cry To" (just released), and "Carrie Ann" (out on June 19th). Harmonically inventive, melodically astute, and always in the pocket, I'm so grateful to have Ben Rosenblum's contributions to our musical worlds. #accordion #jazzpiano taken in GB’s Juke Joint by @perroconsed
