Fantastic two-day trip to LA to support friends and soak up culture! Lauren Halsey’s emajendat spectacle at the Hollywood Bowl, featuring Erykah Badu and Charles Gaines’ Collective, blew my mind with its visual saturation, music, art, and performance.
I also heard my Skowhegan friend Glenn Ligon in conversation with Dr. Kellie Jones about his show at Hauser & Wirth, and then did a LOT of looking at art.
A few things to check out: Marley Freeman at Parker Gallery, Elliott Hundley at Regen Projects, Tala Madani at David Kordansky, Ben Tong at Night Gallery, Randy Wray at Karma, and Liat Yossifor at Michael Benevento, to name a few. Overflowing with art ideas.

Hot off the press 😂 New monoprints, linoleum cuts and digital prints into my flat file. And lots of time in the digital lab! I’ve produced four new video works about place and tracing movement - Venice - Paris - Yosemite. Lots of exploring, experimenting and making.

Residency going great, thanks to Tomoko for mono-print tips and to Cole, digital lab master, for helping me get up and running! Experimenting with monoprint and Yosemite, alongside work in the digital media studio generating Mapping Venice prints from my latest art video “Mapping Venice on Foot.” More work to come.

Please join me and my mom, visiting from Philadelphia, this Saturday at ARC Gallery in SF for a medley of green art, guaranteed to be interesting thanks to our juror, @jd_beltran.

The grey lines are the traced roads I travel down in my city. The shades of green are from one moment in time - the bushes, plants, grass, trees. I was deeply moved by the natural visual variety of greens, and tried to recall them and insert them into the grid made through my body moving through the space of our city.

Spent the afternoon doing visual research at the David Rumsey Map Center at Stanford, open to the public and home to over 200,000 maps spanning 1550 to today. Hours looking, sketching, specifically their Paris and Venice maps.
So interesting to study the historical language of cartography at that scale, some maps transit maps others nautical, in relief, or illustrative while others contour lines, showcase metro routes, railways, roads, bodies of water. Copperplate engravings from 1688 among them. Most are printed but some painted. Endlessly useful as source material. Check it out !

Had such a blast at the opening of CALeidoscope at the Bedford Gallery in Walnut Creek! The exhibition is beautifully curated, and it was wonderful to reconnect with artists I know, meet artists from across California, and spend the evening looking at and talking about everyone's work.

I especially enjoyed sharing my painting with such a large audience, there must have been several hundred people at the opening. The Bedford Gallery is a gorgeous space, and I couldn't have been happier with the location of my work in the exhibition.

Here are a few photos from the evening, including my friends and fellow artists Bushra Gill and Priyanka Rana.

If you're in the Bay Area, the show is definitely worth a visit!

Thank you, Bedford Gallery staff 🙏

I am grateful to be included in CALeidoscope: Evolving Reflections of California at the Bedford Gallery.

I’ll be exhibiting Mapping: Yosemite National Park, Trails, Footsteps, and Waterways (2025), acrylic and thread on linen, 32" × 59".

This piece grew out of walking Yosemite’s trails with my family. In it, I stitch our footsteps into the map, layering shared movement over an abstracted map of place.

Join us for the opening reception on Saturday, July 11, from 5–7 pm.

Tickets are available through the link in my bio, at the door, or by scanning the QR code in the last slide.

Several days in Venice for the Biennale, moving between exhibitions and walking around town. Venice is a magical place, with water between you and everything. I even took a swim from the Lido, the water so salty I floated freely. Water glistens, slows perception, and creates a series of small breaks between you and what you’re looking at.

The Biennale was dense and heavy this year. So much darkness, video installations, immersive environments, large-scale works.

A standout was the Japan Pavilion, Moon Babies by Ei Arakawa-Nash, an interactive installation where you “borrow” baby dolls (a comment on declining birth rates in Japan). Each one was around 10 lbs, surprisingly heavy. It was physical and strangely effective, bringing up the weight and repetition of early parenthood. Also funny watching children completely absorbed, changing diapers at the stations.

Elsewhere, a performance, and a quiet vegetable garden installation stayed with me, and a few drawings and videos already starting to blur into memory.

Across the city, I spent time with Flora Yukhnovich’s exhibition at Victoria Miro,
and Lorna Simpson at the Pinault Collection. I also saw RISD aquaintance, Melissa McGill’s Aquat at 10 & Zero Gallery, and Tintoretto at Scuola Grande di San Rocco, decades of work built into a two-storey space, talk about a fantastic painting installation. Then, Bellini, Titian, Tintoretto inside Basilica Santi Giovanni e Paolo, work embedded in architecture.

I mapped my movements through Paris and Venice, footsteps, patterns, light, color, motion, textures, place. These trips feed directly into my work, what I see evolves into paintings and videos.

Still grateful for the Biennale, for giving so many artists a chance to communicate, thank you for keeping up the good work making it.
