We almost got 14 years together, many of them filled with travel and adventure. We have fought as a team with successes, you and I.

But the day I have feared for a long time, that I knew would come, came today.

We had a nice morning together with a last visit to the beach with bath and a walk in the forest, on paths you have run on so many times.

Even though you haven't been able to exercise actively for a long time, I think you today remembered and thought back on everything we did together with joy.

Today is one of "those days"..
Today you are not having a good day my friend, today you are thinking about things that happened in your past 💔

I can feel it, see it in your eyes and in your body language
So sad to see that there are things that happened to you that still worry you.
It is becoming less and less common but still all too often.

Some days, Rexx needs a little more space than others.

If you spend time with a dog like him, you learn how to see or to feel it.
The small changes in his eyes, his body language, the quiet moments when he seems lost in thoughts you can never fully understand.

In those situations I don't ask more from him than he can give.
I simply stay by his side, respect his space, and let him know he's safe.

Because healing isn't about never having difficult days.

One year ago today, Rexx stepped onto Swedish soil for the first time.

He came from a country at war, carrying a story I will never fully know.

The only thing that I did know, was what written in his eyes.

I have shared my life with many dogs, but I had never seen eyes filled with so much sadness. It was as if the weight of everything he had experienced was visible in a single glance.

This first year was not about training. Nor it was about obedience, performance, or expectations.

It was only about showing him that his world could be safe again.

That people could be trusted.

That he no longer had to survive every day.

Now a year later, the change is remarkable. Rexx thinks a lot but he's mostly happy. He plays, seeks affection, and trusts the people and dogs he calls his family. His personality has emerged from behind the walls he once built to protect himself.

The sadness is no longer the first thing you notice when you look into his eyes.

But trauma leaves its mark.

He still needs his personal space respected. He still carries memories and emotions that surface from time to time. Some wounds are invisible, and some scars may never completely fade.

And that's okay.

Being "healed" doesn't always mean returning to who you were before. Sometimes it means learning to live, love, and trust despite what happened.

Today I don't see the broken dog that arrived a year ago.

I see a fighter and survivor.

And every day he chooses trust over fear is a victory worth celebrating.

Happy one year anniversary, Rexx.

You came here to find safety.

You ended up finding a family ❤️

Someone accuses us of living in a messy home, among other things.
Well, there are dogs lying around here and there as you can see ❤️
Workout clothes hanging out to dry, gym equipment, indoor bike, treadmill, trainer and five bikes for me and two teenagers. Yeah, a bit messy I would say.

But does that really concern anyone other than us?
Not in my opinion.

But anyway. We don't have the coolest or prettiest house, but we like it here. by @persson.robban

He came to me from the war in Ukraine almost a year ago.
A sad soul carrying more than anyone could see.

The wounds were not visible.
They lived in his reactions, his fear, his silence, and in the way he always seemed prepared for something terrible to happen.

For months, we worked through it together. Slowly. Patiently.
One small step at a time.
Learning that not every sound means danger.

Today, standing by the sea for the first time breathing the salty air, I saw something I had waited a long time for...

Peace.
Or at least the beginning of it.

He is still healing. Some scars don't disappear quickly, maybe they never will.
But after everything he has survived, seeing him finally dare to almost enjoy the ocean breeze feels bigger than words can explain.

Sometimes the greatest victories are silent ones.

"We" changed the chain today after the weekend's adventure. Luckily there were two of us, everything goes so much easier when you have helpers ❤️

I realized that I probably need to cut back on my training as I'm obviously too strong for my own safety 😂

Today we celebrate someone special ❤️

Almost a year ago this beautiful soul came into my life from the war in Ukraine. We will never know his whole story, what he has seen or what he has been through... But we do know this, he chose to trust people again. Not yet completely healed in his soul but step by step.

Today is his imaginary 4th birthday. No papers, no exact date but just an age and a day calculated by the vet for administrative reasons. But also a day to celebrate his life.

From surviving the unimaginable to finding safety, he is a living proof of Ukrainian resilience.
