All of these things can be symptoms of a Vocal Cord disorder.
Most commonly experienced by people who sing, talk all day, or speak over noise, when your vocal cords are repeatedly under strain, they can become injured, just like a muscular over-use injury.
Vocal cord issues can also arise after neck or thyroid surgery, having a tube down your throat after a procedure, being under constant stress, and even after repeated illnesses where your throat becomes sore, or you lose your voice 🗣
These symptoms are all treatable through specialised treatment with a Vocal Physiotherapist, and in many cases early intervention can prevent the onset of conditions such as nodes or nodules.
Vocal Physio works hand in hand with Speech Therapy (if you are already seeing someone) or I can refer you to a suitable therapist or Vocal Coach to work on specific speaking and singing exercises.

Are you feeling strain or tension when trying to sing or project your voice?
Are your notes cutting out or your voice failing you at crucial moments?
Does your throat hurt after performing, or it feels like something is caught in there and won't budge?
These are all common signs and symptoms of vocal strain which require specific assessment, and specialised treatment to avoid damaging your vocal cords.
I've worked with many singing and drama students, professional singers and actors (including the stars of #tinathemusical in Perth), speakers, coaches, teachers, and car karaoke enthusiasts, to help them regain perfect pitch, and comfort when using their voices.

In the absence of any dental issues, tooth pain can be caused by trigger points in your facial muscles. I can work with your dentist to ensure that you don't have unnecessary work done, and help relax your muscles to avoid referred pain 🦷🦷🦷

When your patient exclaims “well I’ve never been touched THERE before” sending you into hysterics 😂 Gum and tooth pain can actually be referred from the muscles of the mouth, and the root of your tongue! Unless there is a definite reason for the Dentist to pull your tooth out, at least let a Vocal or Jaw Physio assess your mouth first. I have seen many patients who’s pain has remained unchanged after tooth extraction, only to disappear after 1-2 Vocal Physio treatment sessions 🦷👅👄🗣 #vocalphysio #oralpain #toothpain #referredpain #vocalcordphysio #mouthphysio by @perthvocalphysio

Mrs. H has been experiencing facial pain, and pain in her teeth for several years. She has stopped eating her favourite foods, and the jaw splint her dentist made has stopped helping. After going through her history, we discovered that her first symptoms were actually of vocal strain some 10 years earlier, when she was a college hockey coach back in Canada. Once we settle her throat, face and upper neck, Mrs. H. Will be off to see Perth Jaw Physio to fix her clicky jaw #vocalphysio #vocalrehab #facialpain #soreteeth #voicephysio #vocalstrain #vocalcorddysfunction by @perthvocalphysio
