Thrilled to have got to see the great Greg Koch with the Koch-Marshall Trio last Thursday in a tiny venue near Cologne, just days before they play Ronnie Scott's, and to have a short chat with yer man, who kindly signed the backplate from my Strat, which I'm sure will add extra mojo to my playing!! 😊 Thanks for a great night @gregkochmusic ! by @petefisher2021

My first really big musical mission accomplished part two...for the second song at Rock Am Ring 2 June 2001, Killin Riddim Section backed @the_real_torch and DJ Rick Ski on Torch's In Deinen Armen. I ventured to try and play the original guitar sample live with an electro-acoustic plugged into my Marshall, fingerstyle, sitting down. I was so nervous I forgot the arrangement, but I think I did okay. With apologies for the lo-fi VHS, due to a faulty tape... by @petefisher2021

My first musical mission on the big stages, rescued from a wobbly old VHS tape...It was 8.30 pm, 2 June 2001, at Rock Am Ring, Nurburg Ring, Germany, 14 degrees centigrade and raining, and this was my baptism of fire on the big stage, under camera fire. Killin Riddim Section had a couple of warm up gigs with Torch, before the summer festival season with Gentleman. Both of these were huge festivals with around 10,000+ out front, the other being Rock Im Park the next day. It was my first time on German TV, so I was nervous as hell, but I think it sounds pretty cool and I'd always wanted to play with a real DJ...I even got a solo at the end...😊
The other rapper is Boulevard Bou, at the turntables is DJ Rick Ski. The song is Hey Mädel, written by Torch... by @petefisher2021

2001 was a whirlwind summer after I got hired as guitarist for Gentleman's backing band Killin Riddim Section, having never played to more than about 500 people before. We survived the shower of plastic bottles at Hip Hop Open supporting LL Cool J to play Summerjam with a crowd of about 15,000 a week later, where Sly and Robbie smiled and waved at us across the canteen. Then I sat on the drum riser shaking in the searchlight in front of 30,000 people holding up lighters in the dark at Splash Festival, playing acoustic guitar on Younger Generation alone with Tilmann and Matthias mid-set. A month later I chatted to Sean Paul backstage at the Essigfabrik, where he and Red Rat were on the bill with us, backed by Far East Band, who I joined the following year. The highlight was Chiemsee Reggae, with around 15,000 people and a view of the lake and mountains from the stage, which the first four solos here are from, one, three and four completely off the cuff, while the second solo in Ja Ja Never Fail is the melody I stole from Bread's Make It With You. One of Tilmann's first ever remarks on my playing was that he could hear Pink Floyd...😊
The fifth solo from Man Arise is from Viva Overdrive in Ulm the following year, now with the Far East Band, an example of how great my Les Paul and Marshall amp (no pedals) sounded together on a good day... by @petefisher2021

So I improvised some drums for 5 minutes, and although I was quite pleased with it, I decided to do it again, but kept the first take. That was fine too. I then accidentally played both back at the same time and it sounded great, so I kept it that way, just panned left and right, as if there were two drummers. I came up with the bass riff, which holds down a groove regardless, and then the guitar chords to make it spacier...
