PIVOT 32 by @cottercade & @peter.taky for our ARC607 Comp studio this spring.

Professor: Roger Hubeli
Consultants: Cemex Switzerland, Element AG

A community-centric building located on Inseli Park in Luzern, Switzerland.

The architecture explores the atmospheric tension between light and shadow. Our experimental, folded-concrete structural system acts as a perforated tectonic curtain; by "pulling back" this heavy veil, we reveal the interior performances or frame the external landscape. This spatial threshold manages the flow of light and people, alternating the focus of the "performance" based on the program: in the bar and panorama, the focus is interiority; in the cafe and exhibition space, the focus is the external site. taken in Luzern, Switzerland by @peter.taky

Model of our Pre-Cast High Performance Concrete folded-panel beam design. We tested the folding of concrete during its curing process at Cemex in Brügg, Switzerland over Spring Break.

The beam is seated within keystones on spherical ball joints which allows pivoting of the beam within the columns, while being held in place through compression.

The folding strategy allows for a strong yet light beam design, with the top and bottom of the beam being cast from the same mold.

The two parts are bolted together, with spacers between them, the CLT floor structure is then bolted on top. This structural exploration acted as the driving factor of our Integrated Studio project: Pivot 32 taken in Switzerland by @peter.taky

Studio Final Review from Fall ‘25. Joint project by @cottercade & @peter.taky Final iteration of our coastal tetrapod grid hybrid system nesting data centers in Red Hook, Brooklyn. Storm water is absorbed into the structural grid, acting as a barrier in times of rising sea levels and storms, protecting the waterfront behind it. Within the pods are systems of data centers, and public program.

Studio Mid Review from Fall ‘25. Joint project by @cottercade & @peter.taky A coastal tetrapod grid hybrid system nesting data centers in Red Hook, Brooklyn. Storm water is absorbed into the structural grid, acting as a barrier in times of rising sea levels and storms, protecting the waterfront behind it. Excess water is stored in the adjacent grain terminal and used to cool the data center’s server racks. The entire structure becomes an index of the amount of water coming into the site. Studio 605 Final. Part 2 of the project further developed the tectonic system by studying Frogtown, LA urbanism. Street obstructions and detours in this rapidly developing neighborhood served as the inspiration for the design. “Stitched Gaps Suspended with Alternating Access and Circulation.”

The cables work as a stitch that structurally holds the suspended floors to the space frame in a self sustaining system. The circulation acts as a threshold forcing the user to move through the space in response to friction. by @peter.taky

“The Sentient” Part 2 of the previous post. From the 3D print I then casted it in latex similar to that of movie props/prosthetics. I built a skeleton frame to use for the animatronic and 3d printed it rigging it with fishing wire. In order to re-digitize it, a script was written on grasshopper to animate the object using a servo motor wired to the arduino chip board. A second script was added which tied its movements in response to sound crating a feedback loop that tied directly into the initial tests picking up on sounds using sensors. by @peter.taky
