As I close my 8th and final chapter of club volleyball, I see how little of this journey was ever just about a game. Volleyball has been a crucible — a furnace where adversity burned away excuses and reshaped me into someone stronger, steadier, and truer than I once imagined.

There were seasons I existed on the periphery, benched and watching from the edges as the game moved on without me. At first, it felt like erasure. But in those quiet margins, I learned a different kind of strength — the invisible weight of showing up for others, the humility of valuing presence over performance, and the resilience required to lead without recognition.

I know what it is to be told “no.” For three consecutive years, I was cut from the Wisconsin All-Star team. This year, I finally found myself wearing that Badger Region jersey— not because fate shifted, but because I did. I met rejection with resolve and fear with persistence until the work spoke louder than doubt.

I think back to the kid who once dreaded practice, who saw drills as punishment. Somewhere along the way, the court became sacred ground. Repetition turned to ritual, the grind became belonging, and the work transformed into love.

I have worn many jerseys, each one its own artifact of growth — fragments of identity stitched together by lessons in resilience, humility, and the quiet honor of belonging to something far greater than myself.

And when I look back, the truest victories are not the medals or fleeting glories, but the people — the teammates who became family, the coaches who demanded my best, the opponents who once intimidated me but ultimately taught me that confidence is not granted, but earned.

While lots of things are coming to a close, my love and passion for the game will forever thrive within. Thank you to those who have been there along the way. by @peter_meyer6
