BTS of “Saw My Baby” with @thesoulrebels

I wrote this song about growing up in the Lower 9th Ward. Spending days outside with my cousins, grabbing hot sausage sandwiches from the corner store, eating frozen cups, and a time when life felt a little slower. Those memories shaped me, and this song is my way of honoring them.

Having The Soul Rebels bring this song to life was an absolute dream. I’m so honored they said yes to being part of this record.

I hope this song reminds you of a place, a person, or a memory that still feels like home.

I find New Orleans intoxicating. The music, the food and the people feed my soul in a way that I can't fully it into words. But I know one thing for sure: I am forever grateful for the friendships and the mutual respect that I've gained with so many of the musicians of the Crescent City!

Yesterday, I did my 8th musician gathering to help promote The Roots of Music while documenting the players in New Orleans. I started this a decade ago. All because I saw a poster in a gym window of a woman jumping in the air with drumsticks in her hands. [That's a story for another day]

From drums to guitars to basses to trombones to saxophones to trumpets to keyboards and finally, to tubas, it's been a wild ride.

Mad respect to old those dudes who came out in the hot sun yesterday to help me with this crazy project. I can imagine carrying one of those around on a cool and cloudy day. So I appreciate all y'all for throwing them over your shoulder at Noon on an 85 degree day.
