Onassis ONX lands at @arselectronica Festival 2026 — Negotiating Humanity — with a selection of four moving image works from the ONX Community screening on the 16x18 meter Deep Space 8K.

Spanning video, game engine renderings and textile-based digital landscapes, the program reflects on community, ecology, the residue of procedural worlds and other systems shaping contemporary life.

OTWIERAMY KINOMURAL. TWARZAMI NADODRZA.

Tegoroczny Kinomural otworzy praca nowojorskiego artysty @peterburr , wieloletniego kuratora i artysty Kinomuralu. „Interstitial Maintenance (Konserwacja Międzyprzestrzeni)”. To cyfrowa symulacja świata, który nieustannie się zmienia, zużywa i rozpada, a jednocześnie jest bez końca naprawiany.

A częścią tej pracy będą… prawdziwe twarze mieszkańców Wrocławia i Nadodrza.

Ich cyfrowe wersje zamieszkają w świecie symulacji, który nieustannie działa, psuje się i jest naprawiany.

Praca zostanie wyświetlona jednocześnie na kilku ścianach Nadodrza, tworząc z architektury jedną wielką, wieloekranową kompozycję. Obraz będzie rozciągał się pomiędzy budynkami, fragmentami miasta i jego mieszkańcami.

Peter Burr tworzy ten projekt jako część większego przedsięwzięcia Aria Engine. Za dźwięk odpowiada Warren Lee, a za kierownictwo techniczne Oren Shoham.

WE’RE OPENING KINOMURAL. WITH THE FACES OF NADODRZE.

This year’s Kinomural will open with “Interstitial Maintenance” by New York-based artist Peter Burr, a longtime curator and artist with Kinomural. It is a digital simulation of a world that is constantly changing, wearing down and falling apart, while being endlessly repaired.

And part of this work will feature… the real faces of Wrocław and Nadodrze residents.

Their digital versions will inhabit a simulated world that is constantly running, breaking down and being repaired.

The work will be projected simultaneously across several walls of Nadodrze, transforming the architecture into one vast, multi-screen composition. The image will stretch between buildings, fragments of the city and the people who live there.

Peter Burr is creating the project as part of his larger Aria Engine project. Sound by Warren Lee, with technical direction by Oren Shoham.

Over the past year I've been writing a dissertation.

It's been a real marathon, and now that I have it all assembled, I'm coming up for air to share some fruits of my research!

I am starting to publish interviews I did with artists about worldbuilding in the age of generative AI, and what these tools are doing to the way we imagine and make. I will be posting them in chronological order as they happened, and I just dropped the first one on my Substack, a conversation with Jeremy Couillard about billionaires, jank, and the platonic unreal. In 2006, when YouTube was barely a year old and Netflix was still putting discs in envelopes, CARTUNE XPREZ pressed its first DVD. Back then, experimental animation mostly lived on shelves, in festival queues, and in boxes shipped between friends. CX took it on the road instead, operating as part video label, part live theater, part psychedelic insurrection, carrying cartoon compilations into basements and cinemas across dozens of countries. Over two hundred events and twenty years later, the algorithm has swallowed most of the room. by @peterburr

The original idea for this program was painters who animate - it was a good starting point, but the more I thought about it, I realized I wanted to widen the net. Animation can be painterly, but it can be textural in other ways too. It can be self-referential, it can tell a story. It can also be funny. I tried to include a number of different possibilities in this screening, from explicitly painterly to unapologetically digital, handmade stop motion, and cartoons. I love all this work for different reasons, and I thought it would be nice to bring it all together at The Gallery.

We can’t wait to host the opening reception of @onioncityfilmfest this Thursday, April 9th, 5:30pm-7:30pm at 150 Media Stream (located in the lobby of 150 N Riverside Plaza)!

Experience two artworks guest curated by media artist Peter Burr as they play in conversation on our unique media wall. Burr’s THE CONTINUOUS MONUMENT, commissioned by 150 Media Stream in 2021, will alternate with French artist Boris Labbé’s ITO MEIKYŪ, newly adapted for our media wall from its original virtual reality format. The VR version of the piece will also be available to experience on-site during the opening reception, and you do not want to miss it!

Enjoy light refreshments and Onion City-themed pastries from @delsur.bakery during the opening reception, then head to the Gene Siskel Film Center (164 N State St) by 8pm for the opening night screening, USEFUL FANTASY, also curated by Peter Burr! taken in 150 North Riverside by @peterburr
