“Simple as That” is out now. If you know the feeling, you know the feeling. Close your eyes, turn on an imaginary mirror ball in an empty room, and quietly rage for forever as the final frame dims into black. Link in bio.

Special thanks to @anniedenten_ for lighting consultations and @mel9674 for lending us her non-imaginary mirror ball. by @petercchoi

“Traces” is out now. We instinctively cling to what we have grown accustomed to. The statement, “we have the tendency to choose a familiar hell over an unfamiliar heaven,” concisely sums up this behavior. Spend enough time with something, someone, some state, regardless of how toxic, and we will inevitably establish a home within it — one that we struggle to leave.

In hindsight, there’s been immense progress in moving forward past this part of myself. And yet, the days I’m at my worst, I still find myself relapsing and running back to the alluring comforts of this past state. It’s a raw topic, but also a reminder that this is all a very real part of the bigger process. Nothing is ever really a clean, straight shot.

As for the nerdy production side of things (keeping in line with the rawness of it all) I was stoked to spend more time experimenting with and transitioning into analog sounds. A first for recording to cassette tape, for using analog synths, spring reverbs, and clunky 70’s mixers with overdriven fuzz. It wasn’t something I had thought about much in the past, but I’ve recently been trying to put forth more of a conscious effort into using as many real ingredients as possible despite the final product still being delivered digitally. Whether or not the end consumer can tell the difference, I think there’s something about intention and process that is significant on a human level. Anyways, a huge thank you for reading and for listening! by @petercchoi

Recent branding work for Foundry, a personalized fitness app designed to help you slowly establish stable foundations overtime. Fitness is supposed to be measured by one’s ability to execute daily activities and movements with ease. Yet somewhere along the way, we let media convince us that it’s, instead, an aesthetic-focused lifestyle requiring high-intensity and speed. As a result, we often find ourselves relying on looking good as a measure of success. To worsen the situation, there’s so much misinformation, click-bait, and conflicting resources out there that can really overwhelm, discourage, and confuse us. That’s why Foundry is committed to simplifying everything back to the basics — and only the basics. Because despite outward appearances, we’re only as strong as our foundations. Thanks @josh_libbey for trusting me with this project! 🙏🏻 by @petercchoi

I’m allowed to light incense whenever I want, which means I should also be allowed to make cool stuff whenever I want. Why did it take this long for me to figure that out? by @petercchoi

We live in such a tangible world that we often overlook just how much of what happens or doesn’t is largely a result of our internal beliefs about ourselves — and less so our actual physical capabilities. Truthfully, the human species is pretty dang incredible. We’re all capable of continually learning, growing, and refining to an astounding degree. Yet, the older we get, we’re also that much more prone to becoming the ones blocking ourselves from moving forward on our convictions simply as a result of fear. Fear that is not grounded in truth, but the kind that is muddied up by a heavily distorted perception of ourselves and the reality we live in.

Often times it can originate from a single distinct scenario of “failure” in the distant past or maybe the culmination of incessant and repetitive discouragements from a few close people in our lives. The sample size of this data is so small to the point where it is statistically insignificant in determining any sort of soundness of theory. And yet, we let it fester inside us, ruminating on it night after night for years until it puffs up totally out of proportion; until it is no longer a separate entity of a thought, but very much a unified part of our automatic and subconscious existence; a distorted truth coloring our view of the world around us and dictating what we can or cannot do. If you are familiar with it, its presence is loud and it carries a big stick.

There are still so many nights when I jolt awake, hands tingling and back stiff from anxiety — as if my body knows for certain the disastrous outcome that will inevitably occur. But these days I get up, take some deep breaths, drink a cold glass of water, and pay it no attention. Because I know a little better now that this feeling, no matter how real it feels, is not truth. I do not want to let it dictate any more of my outcomes.

Life moves by so quickly, and it’s too short to be wasting it away in fear. So I’m doing my best to separate myself from this thing that I have allowed to dwell inside me for far too long. It will take some time, but I see progress. And I only hope the same for everyone else who is finding themselves on this very path. by @petercchoi
