Celebrated another year of life recently. This past year God continued to show me that as long as I lean on Him, even when I don’t understand what’s happening or why, I’ll be alright.

Lil Pete attended his first basketball camp at Battle in the Bluffs, and I could tell from day one this program was built the right way.

They developed their game but what impressed me most was everything beyond basketball. They held the kids accountable for how they spoke. They taught them to project their voice, be on time, be great teammates, and constantly build each other’s confidence. Those are life lessons that just happen to be taught through basketball.

When we left after the final day, my man said “I want to come back to this camp every year.”

So look forward to seeing Lil Pete aka “Deuce from Texas”, for years to come.

There really is a magic that you feel the moment you step onto Martha’s Vineyard.

It’s hard to explain until you’ve experienced it.

Maybe it’s the history.

Maybe it’s knowing generations of Black families have returned here year after year to rest, reconnect, and simply be.

Maybe it’s watching your children experience that same joy.

Our kids have been coming here every summer since our oldest was born. They won’t remember their first trip here. They’ll just grow up knowing the Vineyard has always been part of their story.

Whatever it is…I hope they never lose it and pass it on for generations to come.
