This an old viking church built 850 yrs ago as the Vikings slowly adopted Christianity. It’s known as Stave church due to construction. It’s truly remarkable. We are on our way from Oslo to Bergen in a rented vw id4 electric as are 95% of all cars in Norway. by @peterg007

It was a very nice warm day in Oslo, on our 3hr bike tour we watched Norwegians cooling off in fjord. Natalie decided to book us a sauna for a dip, not at 2, or 3 or 4, 6:30p. With the wind blowing we descended to the fjord. While people were wearing sweatshirts we were going swimming? Be sure to catch the video by @peterg007

Long post warning: We are staying in the old town of krakow, there is limited car traffic. The city is stunning small cobblestone streets, one of the largest squares in Europe, old churches (14th century) and old synagogue’s (1409). The city was once divided in 2 w the jewish section across the river. That river no longer exists and while there was once 64,000 Jews here today there are less than 1200. The orthodox shul has 135 members. It’s quite beautiful. Our guide drove us around because its was 98 degrees today. We did some walking but minimal. The scale of what happened to the Jews here is unspeakable- since we go to aushwitz tomorrow it Will become speakable. We visited the JCC which is 18 years old and has been key in working w Ukrainian refugees- not just Jewish ones. We met w a young girl from San Fran who was doing a fellowship and told us there are 5 out of 65 employees at the J who are Jewish- to give you an idea of numbers. I/you just want to start crying and you’re unsure when it will stop. There’s a small cemetery that is still there, despite the Germans using the tombstones for the roads. Once the war was over the Jews made a wall from the fragments they found. We drove by Schindlers factory (we go there on Friday) and saw the walls of the ghetto where the Jews had 2 weeks to move from their homes into apts that had 2 or 3 families living there. There’s a very moving tribute in the square of the ghetto where the Germans had taken pr pictures of Jewish kids moving chairs on their heads to show they were just moving “some” furniture. There are 64 chairs each representing the 64,000 who were murdered.

There are many tourists here learning about the history, I would guess most are not Jewish. We learned at the JCC the problems that exist in the US regarding Israel are not happening here. We also learned there are many people, Jews and non Jews alike who want to learn about the history who come here and spend time.

Good Morning Black Sea. It’s very beautiful. 200 miles across is Sochi, the second pix is looking north, 50 miles to Romania and 150 to Odessa. Most of our family is from Ukraine, it’s odd to think I’m probably the only person is my family to be this close in 130+ years. More to come by @peterg007
