I’m so pleased that ‘George in the Amelanchier’ was selected as one of the prize winners at the Ironbridge Printmaking Competition 2026 currently on show at Ironbridge Fine Arts.

Guest Judge, Chloe Barnes (winner, Sky Portrait Artist of the Year, 2025) commented: “This work was selected for a prize for its delicacy, level of detail and accuracy … The artist has been able to capture light and dimension through beautiful linework, reflecting the thoughtfulness in the figure’s expression. It is very accomplished and there is a gentle flow throughout the composition.”

Thank you @chloe_barnes_artist, all at @ironbridgeprintmakers and especially to George Eglese for modelling for me :)

I’m going to miss this man so much. Although I never met him he has been my inspiration since my teenage years. Mentor, hero, icon, role-model. What a gift to the world he has been. Thank you DH xxx

My drawing is based on the 1963 portrait of David Hockney by Francis Goodman, courtesy of the National Portrait Gallery. The photo was taken the year I was born. by @peterprintmaker
